    Reports To: Service Referral Manager

    ABOUT LA COLMENA: Founded in 2014, La Colmena has been empowering immigrant workers and their families through education, organizing, culture, and economic development. To this end, La Colmena continues to provide a space where workers learn and assert their rights, develop their leadership, access resources and opportunities and become active members in their community.

    POSITION OVERVIEW: The Childcare Assistance Coordinator ensures workers and asylum seekers connected to La Colmena have access to childcare services they qualify for and assist them in enrolling their qualifying children into child care centers and licensed child care providers.

    ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    In collaboration with the Service Referral Manager:

    • Conduct community outreach, ensuring access to immigrant workers and asylum seekers families and linkages with other CBOs
    • Assist parents in completing and submitting the Program Application;
    • Assist each Parent to identify and enroll in a registered home-based or licensed center-based child care provider or program
    • Provide case management to ensure enrollment process is complete and any changes recorded
    • Work closely with childcare providers to ensure enrollment and subsidy paperwork is completed expeditiously
    • Attend meetings and calls with funder’s team
    • Perform any other pertinent duties and responsibilities requested by the supervisor
    • Some evenings and weekends required
    • Some local travel required

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ability to work and collaborate with a predominantly Spanish-speaking community
    • High emotional intelligence, engaging with at-risk individuals and maintaining confidentiality
    • Strong communication skills in Spanish and English
    • Excellent communication skills with diverse members of the public and staff
    • Demonstrated desire to work as a team
    • Knowledge of computer operations (including but not limited to, Google Apps, Microsoft Office, etc.), as well as copiers, fax machines, and phones
    • Knowledge of and commitment to issues of workers and immigrants’ rights
    • Other responsibilities:
    • Acts as a good steward of La Colmena resources and reputation.
    • Knowledgeable and articulate in La Colmena’s mission.
    • Develop and maintain value-added quality year round relationships with key stakeholders

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: below are requirements for associates

    • 1+ years working/volunteering with immigrant communities or other vulnerable individuals
    • 1+ years working/volunteering in a non-profit social service context
