Programs Coordinator

Buena Vista Horace Mann K-8 (BVHM) is a Spanish Immersion school just blocks away from our Mission Center. The core of our work is direct service and this position will lead programming for approximately 12-16 hours per week. The ideal candidate is excited to work closely with school partners, parents, and students to provide high-quality writing and tutoring programs on a school campus. The Programs Coordinator loves to teach, is energized by elementary-aged students, and has a knack for understanding and being responsive to students’ needs. The Programs Coordinator builds relationships with students, families, volunteers, and teachers in order to ensure our students build confidence, pride, writing skills, and creativity that will lead to future success.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Programs Coordinator reports to the BVHM Programs Manager.  

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Programs Coordination and Support

• Coordinate the After-School Program at BVHM and support school-day programs. Provide direct service to students as a lead teacher and tutor, design and/or implement writing curriculum and individualized support for students
• In collaboration with the Programs Manager, determine program priorities and track progress towards goals and objectives; evaluate program effectiveness to develop improved methods for program delivery
• Coordinate and support the activities of interns, volunteers, and AmeriCorps members; recruit, train, support, engage, and celebrate tutors to promote continued engagement and improved effectiveness
• Communicate with all parties in a timely, responsive, and effective manner. Maintain consistent communication with volunteers and caregivers; provide written and oral Spanish translation as necessary 
• Cultivate strong, authentic partnerships with caregivers and Jamestown Community Center to improve the program and student outcomes; connect students and families to resources as needed
• Track student and volunteer data using Salesforce and the Contract Management System of the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Families; support grants reporting and program evaluation as needed
• Support and/or coordinate student publications and related release parties. Duties may include transcription, translation, copyediting, and event logistics
• Serve as an instructor for summer programming
• Provide support to other 826 Valencia programs as needed, including occasional evening and weekend events

Other Responsibilities

• Participate in staff and departmental meetings, internal committees on diversity, equity, and inclusion, the annual 826 National conference, anti-racism training, other professional development activities, and performance appraisal systems
• Proactively raise issues with the Program Manager to prioritize tasks and implement solutions
• Meet all deadlines and maintain accurate timesheets
• Work collaboratively with all staff members to ensure robust programming 
• All other duties assigned by the Executive Director and Programs Manager

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of two years of experience working with under-resourced youth
• Able to regularly travel to the BVHM Writers’ Room, approximately one half-mile from our Mission Center
• Fully bilingual in Spanish and English languages (highly preferred)
• Facility with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, and macOS
• Able to complete a background check and tuberculosis screening. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records
• Able to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination including booster doses when eligible, or participate in an interactive process for accommodations. Able to follow COVID-19 health and safety guidelines while in our Writing Centers, at schools sites, and work events

OTHER DETAILS

This non-exempt, salaried, full-time role (40 hours per week,) is based at the Mission Center, 826 Valencia St., San Francisco, with substantial time at the BVHM Writers’ Room, located approximately one half-mile from our Mission Center. The work schedule is subject to change based on programmatic needs. Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area, and able to work in an open-office environment where there may be substantial ambient noise and overheard conversations.
