JOB SUMMARY
This is a clinical position working mostly with families involved with or at-risk to be involved with child protective services. Most of our clients are adult survivors impacted by Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). A portion of the time will also be spent on our parenting program providing group education. Our programs seek to unite and stabilize families when it is possible, which means the counselor will be comfortable working with mothers and fathers. Our staff work with families to eliminate the presence or possibility of violence, abuse, or neglect from occurring in the home.
The counselor is responsible for completing initial IPV and parenting intakes. The counselor is responsible for providing ongoing individual services for approximately 10-12 adult IPV survivors. The counselor will have skills to address clients who have experienced chronic trauma including, but not limited to survivors of child abuse, sexual violence, and systemic discrimination. The counselor should have experience working with marginalized populations such as the homeless, immigrants/refugees, and LGBTQ+ individuals. The counselor should be prepared to treat every person seeking services with dignity and respect. The counselor should be able to set clear boundaries and maintain neutrality in the face of learning more about the complicated adverse experiences of the families we serve. The counselor will be flexible in the administration of services by being able to connect with clients by phone, text, and video conferencing when in person services are not possible. The counselor will divide work time between the home and office, with a minimum of three full workdays in the office with supervisor approval. This position may require the counselor to perform duties at the Nest Advocacy Center and the Morton House location.

This is a full-time exempt position. This position will require the counselor to work during the weekdays and one evening per week. In addition, the counselor will participate in community and Nest events. The counselor’s schedule will be determined by the Director of the Program. The counselor will be expected to arrive at and leave work at designated times.
The Nest requires all staff to be present for three events each year: The Night for The Nest, Annual Staff Training, and Reindeer Express. Most projects will be conducted during business hours, but some events will take place after regular business hours. Each member of staff is required to attend three additional events outside of a regular schedule that will be determined by the Director of the Program or Executive Director. The counselor will be provided with a laptop and must be comfortable utilizing technology to complete job responsibilities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related human services field; and full licensure (or working toward that) in their field in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The counselor will need knowledge of victimization issues and dynamics of intimate partner violence as well as evidenced based trauma-informed therapeutic techniques. The counselor must have native or near-native level fluency in Spanish. This position requires excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills. Travel may be required.
