Job description

This is a full time, non-exempt, position, reporting to the Director of Facilities. Overall the position is responsible for the maintenance of the building and grounds areas, including cleaning, repairs and set-ups. The custodian also monitor on a daily basis the mechanical systems, thermostat systems, and safety and security systems of the building. Additionally, this position works as part of the custodian team in completing event and service setups.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

HVAC AND SAFETY AND SECURITY EQUIPMENT Monitoring: 25%

  • Following the "Facilities Opening and Closing Procedures Checklist," at the start or end of your shift, the custodian is responsible for monitoring mechanical systems and reporting equipment malfunctions.
  • Responds to emergency situations pertaining to equipment for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and reports those issues to the Head Custodian. (Including Fire and Burglar Alarms, Sprinkler Systems, elevators, HVAC equipment, mechanical systems in the boiler and sprinkler room)
  • Ensures the thermostats are adjusted based on the events taking place during your shift taking into consideration energy efficiency.
  • Responds to crisis situations following the Security Plan and takes on the role delegated to facilities as part of the "Crisis Management Team"

EVENT SET-UPS and MAINTENANCE: 25 -50% (depending on event calendar)

  • At the start of the shift, the custodian works with the Head Custodian or in his absence the Event Manager to configure room set-ups to established event plan to support events
  • Delivers to designated areas portable equipment; stage platforms, chairs, tables, and audio visual equipment etc….
  • After an event, breaks down room (e.g. tables, chairs, audio visual equipment, etc…) and returns equipment to appropriate storage area. Cleans area where event took place
  • Repair tables / chairs as needed
  • Provides Head Custodian with a report after each event where damage or loss has occurred
  • Complete the work assigned by the Head Custodian on the "Shift Assignment Form" related to set ups, cleaning, disinfecting, exterior grounds, etc…
  • Other duties as assigned by Head Custodian or DOA

BUILDING AND GROUNDS – 50%

  • Pressure wash entrances bi-monthly or as required
  • Blow out property as required
  • Special Cleaning: Shampoo carpets, strip and wax floors
  • Complete repairs including Painting, repair windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, and other parts of building structures as required by supervisor
  • Maintain kitchens; inspect all kitchen equipment in order to report malfunctions. Perform other maintenance actions following kitchen maintenance check list.
  • Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of employees
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
  • Work overtime when emergencies arise
  • Act as a substitute custodian when necessary
  • other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
