Founded by MacArthur Fellow and conceptual artist Mel Chin, S.O.U.R.C.E. is an artist-centered and action-oriented organization focused on artistic approaches that connect people while addressing human challenges in bold, beautiful and poetic ways. We are committed to supporting artists and producing projects and practices rooted in community, experimentation, creative methodologies, and social justice. We are expanding our team and are seeking an experienced and strategically-minded Communications and Storytelling Specialist to help amplify new and existing projects (Fundred Project, Memory Builds the Monument, the Corrina Mehiel Fellowship) through creative and compelling storytelling. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about developing and sharing the ideas and methods of an arts and justice organization that supports artists and communities. 

Working alongside the Director of S.O.U.R.C.E Studio, and in dialogue with our team of artists and cultural workers, the candidate will also ensure that the organization maintains a cohesive and effective digital presence across web, social, and email through managing voice, visual aesthetic, and growth. The candidate will play a key role in refining how our digital strategy conveys the mission, artists, and programming of S.O.U.R.C.E to a local and national audience. 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategy 

  • Contribute to conversations around the evolution of S.O.U.R.C.E’s social voice & collaborate on short-term and long-term social strategy
  • Conceive, develop, and implement creative strategies and formats for sharing S.O.U.R.C.E’s projects, including but not limited to: research, interviews, writing project updates, newsletters 
  • Create, manage, and execute a consistent social plan across the S.O.U.R.C.E digital portfolio with input from staff and collaborators 

Social Media/Web

  • Create and execute posts for upcoming programs and projects on all social media channels
  • Community manage social channels by responding to messages, comments, and general informational emails, in addition to engaging with relevant artists, organizations and media outlets
  • Coordinate approvals of media and text with artists and collaborators
  • Input and manage website content 
  • Draft newsletters and oversee and update mailing lists

Management  

  • For communications relevant meetings, contribute to agenda setting, note-taking, and sending email recaps/next steps to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Maintain and update digital archive of images and associated content for projects, programs, special events, and other initiatives
  • Update respective press sections and maintain digital archive of press for the organization’s records 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in managing social media channels in relevant field
  • Excellent writing and copyediting
  • Well-versed in accessibility and dis/ability needs in the digital realm (i.e. alt text, visual descriptions), or express willingness to learn
  • Conscious of cultural identities and difference, commitment to intersectional thinking and practice 
  • Strong visual eye for aesthetics and design
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven proofreading skills
  • Strong project management 
  • Solutions oriented and resourceful
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and be flexible
  • Reliable self-starter with an ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team 

Technical Skills 

  • Working knowledge of photo and video editing software
  • Experience producing real time, creative social content
  • Experience managing CMS social media applications
  • Experience working on wordpress sites

Payment & Time

~15 hours/week, $1800/month contract for remote work. 6 months with possibility of extension. There is a strong possibility for the Communications and Storytelling Specialist to grow into a permanent position, as the organization is currently expanding.

Compensación
