Job Description –Communication Officer – Online and New Media, India

Part-time (20 hours aweek)

Organization Description:

BRICS Feminist Watch (BFW):  Formed in 2017, BRICS Feminist Watch (BFW)

has emerged as a global South Feminist alliance that provides a much-needed

gender analysis, perspective, voice and empirical evidence from the ground to

key global policy debates, International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and

large development projects.  BFW is a network of feminist scholars, researchers,

and activists from the global South whose mission is to work for economic and

gender justice as well as sustainable and democratic development. The Alliance

brings the collective strength of feminist analysis and activism to promote

gender-responsive inclusive sustainable development and to make visible the

linkages between gender justice, environmental and economic justice as critical

to sustain movements and actions.

PWESCR is the global Secretariat for BFW.

Position

Description (Location: India) (can work remotely)

BFW is looking for a part-time Communication Officer (CO) with expertise in

online and social media communication, public relation and writing skills. CO

will work closely with Coordinator and Core Group members of BFW and will be

responsible to help BFW develop overall communication strategy with a visible

social media presence. This would include a strategic plan for effective

impact, visibility and dissemination of all aspects of BFW’s work. At PWESCR we

strongly believe that good communication is the key behind any advocacy

efforts, campaigns, constituency building, etc.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Communications Officer will include:

BFW Website

·     Develop, manage and update the content of the BFW website

·        Collate information and multimedia resources for the website.

·        Develop, create, and manage events and announcements on the website.

·        Manage the blog on the website, write creative postings, and coordinate with the members and BFW teams to regularly update blog posts.

·        Devise and implement strategies to reach out to more and more people, increase website traffic, and provide people with interesting and informative content.

·        Manage any other task related to the BFW website.

Social Media

·  Develop and implement strategies to increase outreach and traffic/users on BFW’s social media channels, including gaining more followers and friends for Twitter and Facebook

Manage BFW’s social networking accounts, and regularly update and respond to posts/tweets/etc.

·        Link fundraising efforts to BFW’s social media presence

·        Identify ways and means to build inter-linkages between BFW’s website and social media channels, and increase people's (members) active participation at all these forums.

·        Increase BFW’s presence at various social media platforms, such as Internet forums, weblogs, social

blogs, and wikis.


Other tasks

·      Create and disseminate announcements, as required, for special events, etc. through Constant Contact

and other channels.

·        Create and manage audio-visual documentation of BFW's work and impact.

·        Manage relationships with designers, tech team, etc.

·        Strategize with and help educate staff and members on incorporating relevant social media techniques

into BFW's online presence

·        Measure impact of social media on overall marketing efforts

·        Contributes to the development of BFW's Communications Strategy

Key Characteristics

An ideal candidate should have the following qualities.

·        Very knowledgeable in social media tools and techniques (2-3 years of work experience in these areas)

·        Strong marketing and communication skills, including a degree in communications or related field and

ability to write creatively and fluidly.

·        Demonstrated interest in issues related to women's rights, economic justice, social work, community

development, gender studies, human rights, and/or related field

·        Must be active in social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

·        Creative thinker, with ability to exercise judgment and be a proactive problem-solver

·        Fluency in English (excellent oral and written skills are required)

·        Excellent interpersonal and team player skills.

Remuneration:

Communication Officer is a part-time (20 hours a week) leadership position in the organization. Salary is based on experience. The salary range is Rs 25000 to 35000 per month
