Community Organizer

The Community Organizer (Organizer) will lead Grace United Methodist Church’s efforts to be a life-giving, authentic, and respectful presence to the needs and dreams of those who live and work in the York Road corridor. The Organizer will serve as a bridge between the church and the neighborhood, enabling the development of relationships and helping to assess current issues, needs, and opportunities for partnerships. The Organizer will identify key stakeholders, conduct one-on-one meeting in both church and community, and perform in-depth analyses of the potential for ministry partnerships, as Grace Church seeks to contribute toward creating spaces of community, nourishment and hope along the York Road corridor.  

This is a part-time (15 hours/week), nine-month position, running from approximately September, 2022 through May, 2023.  

Core Responsibilities 

 

1.     Conduct one-on-one meetings within the Grace Church community and the businesses and associations situated on York Road and surrounding neighborhoods.

2.     Plan and implement methods for assessing the current strengths, needs, and opportunities for ministries of presence, mercy and justice within the York Road corridor. 

3.     Educate the Grace Church community on the current the current strengths, needs, and opportunities for ministries of presence, mercy and justice within the York Road corridor. 

4.     Facilitate relationships between Grace Church and the York Road Corridor through planning and implementing spaces for connection between the two communities. This can include weekly shared meetings between two groups, regular presentations in Grace Church worship, and opportunities for Grace members to be involved in community events within the York Road corridor neighborhoods. 

5.     Build capacity within the Grace Church and York Road Corridor connections for prayerful, creative, and strategic collaboration.  

6.     Recruit and train other leaders.

7.     Coordinate a strategic planning process for identifying, developing, and launching a new ministry within the York Road corridor.
