The Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Training Institute (SAFETI) Coordinator leads the implementation of all training activities under SAFETI. The SAFETI coordinator facilitates training for medical professionals in acute care and forensic evidence collection. The Alliance provides multiple courses and seminars, put together by the SAFETI Coordinator, for medical professions and other social service professions who work in sexual assault response.

The SAFETI Program Coordinator will work closely with all partners across New York City (NYC). They will maintain communication with local partners in efforts to maintain relevancy in the medical forensic space. The person in this role is an active participant in the Alliance’s Programs Team and works collaboratively with staff across the organization through an anti-oppression lens.

Specific responsibilities inherent to the position include:

·       Manage all day-to-day operations of the SAFETI;

·       Serve as the primary contact for all SAFE TI training inquiries at the Alliance and response to SAFETI training request from the website;

·       Develop, plan and execute SAFETI programming, including trainings and seminars;

·       Lead outreach efforts to hospitals, schools and other community programs;

·       Create and maintain an active list of speakers, trainers and facilitators for SAFETI trainings;

·       Maintain and uphold SAFETI’s New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) training site certification;

·       Maintain and uphold SAFETI’s International Association of Forensic Nurse (IAFN) training site certification;

·       Implement training and program evaluation that highlights the medical community needs regarding sexual violence respond to best inform SAFETI trainings;

·       Create and lead the execution of marketing and outreach strategies that targets hospitals, nursing schools, medical programs and other community-based programs across all five boroughs across in NYC;  

·       Conduct independent research to stay apprised of emerging trends, policy changes, and best practices in fields of SAFE;

·       Mobilizes community partners and other support networks in healthcare to improve medical response to survivors of sexual violence;

·       Coordinate interdisciplinary communication among medical systems in efforts to recruit forensic examiners who provide post medical care to survivors of sexual violence;

·       Provide support to existing and emerging SAFE programs across NYC in efforts to promote best practices, working to create consistency and address service gaps necessary to serve survivors of sexual violence;

·       Prepare all related program and grant reports on a monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual basis and assist with preparing grant proposals;

·       Represent the Alliance and SAFETI by participating in various citywide and statewide events, task forces, coalition, conferences and/or initiatives that specifically incorporate SAFE efforts and sexual violence response;

·       Actively participate and contribute to trainings, site visits or audits performed by the funder;

·       Actively participate and sign up for list servs, digest, mailing lists, and/or newsletters, etc., pertaining to SAFE;  

·       Supervise interns/volunteers as necessary;

·       Generate content and share resources and information for Alliance IG and or other Alliance social media platforms;    

·       Support the policy and advocacy work of the Alliance;

·       Work closely with the Director of Programs and Director of Operations to manage contractors/ consultants' contracts and monitor their programming and deliverables on all prevention related grants;

·       Directly work with the Director of Operations to manage program budget;

·       Continually work to identify opportunities for professional development; 

·       Additional organizational responsibilities may arise and are shared equally among all staff, including, but not limited to, assisting in executing organization wide meetings, retreats and/or conferences;



Required Qualifications/Skills:

·       Licensed Master Social Worker in NYS;

·       4+ years of experience working in the field of sexual violence, with a focus on public health, social justice, survivor advocacy, community organizing, medical or prevention;

·       Experience in developing and facilitating trauma-informed and evidence-based interventions trainings to diverse medical professionals;

·       Knowledgeable in certification protocols and policies that result in the provision of quality medical intervention in sexual assault;

·       Clinical experience in working directly with sexual violence survivors;

·       Experience working in or with healthcare systems, hospital administrators and medical professionals in diverse communities;

·       Knowledge of issues, policies and best practices in the medical response and prevention of sexual violence;

·       Excellent facilitation, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interface with program, government, and funding partners;

·       Sensitivity to the impact of sexual violence in diverse communities and the ability to articulate these concerns to various stakeholders in a sensitive and respectful manner;

·       Strong partnership-building skills;

·       Proficient in Microsoft Suite;

·       Knowledgeable in designing platforms such as Canva to create outward facing communication, information sharing and/or presentations;

·       Experience in collecting and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data needed for program evaluation;

·       Dedication to using a social justice, anti-oppression, anti-racist framework to carry out work;

·       Commitment to engaging, working with and supporting people from a diversity of backgrounds, identities and perspectives;


Preferred Qualifications/Skills:


·       Bachelor’s degree with a focus in public health, social work, mental health, gender studies, sociology or related field;

·       Knowledge on operating program budget

·       Certified rape crisis counselor in compliance with New York State Department of Health.

·       Experience serving as a sexual assault advocate (i.e. rape crisis counselor) including survivor-facing service delivery (i.e. telephone support, individual and group counseling, legal advocacy and hospital-based medical advocacy);

·       Understanding of criminal justice, hospital, and institutional systems as they interact with diverse sexual assault survivors.  

·       Preference will be given to candidates with experienced in working in hospital and healthcare system;  

·       Experience creating needs assessments and evaluations and using them to design and implement programs and strategic plans;

·       Experience and managing or participating in public health related social-media campaigns;

Working Environment:

The organization operates at a full-hybrid capacity. The Alliance offers a mixture of in-person and virtual training opportunities for the communities and organizations we serve. Staff will have access to flexible, hybrid work schedules, though in-person meetings and training sessions throughout New York City will be required.
