Position Overview

City Year New York is seeking an experienced educator to join the Impact team and lead full-time AmeriCorps Members in supporting students to improve performance, while designing and implementing high-quality after-school programming in compliance with the School’s Out New York City grant awarded by the Department of Youth and Community Development. The SONYC Impact Manager plays a critical role in implementing City Year’s school-based Whole School Whole Child (WSWC) service model, mission, and practices, while fostering relationships with teachers, administrators, families and community partners. Reporting to an Impact Director and working from a partner school, the SONYC Impact Manager is also an effective talent developer who will support AmeriCorps members through a challenging and rewarding year of service.

City Year Service Delivery and Impact


· Implement City Year’s WSWC model with a high degree of quality to a targeted group of students at the right time. Make data-informed decisions to ensure tutoring, classroom support, afterschool programs, and school-wide initiatives align with the shared goals of the school/City Year partnership.


· Directly coach 1 Senior AmeriCorps Member (Team Leader) and together manage up to 12 AmeriCorps Members in having a successful and rewarding year of service.


· Ensure City Year goals are met with fidelity and quality, including attendance, behavior, and course performance interventions


· Conduct consistent formal observations of AmeriCorps Member service, and provide asset-based coaching and mentorship


· Attend City Year Staff meetings and school-based City Year Team meetings


Lead an after school program related to the SONYC Grant:


· Ensure all protocols are in place for student safety, including compliance with SACC Licensing protocols and measures


· Ensure teams hit accurate hours breakdown needed by tracking hours and troubleshooting issues to ensure that the target number of hours needed for each student are met


· Ensure materials and supplies are ordered in a timely manner for effective programming


· Ensure that all students are adhering to systems set in place


· Create & implement behavior management system for after school space as permitted by school administration


· Create and implement schedule for after school programming that supports student achievement in adherence to SONYC Grant requirements


Ensure collection of all data related to SONYC Grant programming:


· Collect attendance data for each student daily


· Work with AmeriCorps Members to collect student information and ensure that each student has a file that is accurate and updated accordingly throughout the school year


· Work with Evaluation Team to ensure that all student attendance and personal data are entered into the DYCD system for reporting and compliance


Ensure all lessons for SONYC programming are planned and executed:


· Execute lesson planning processes that hold AmeriCorps Members accountable to turning in, reviewing and implementing successful lesson plans each week


· Review all lesson plans and give feedback to AmeriCorps Members in agreed-upon time frame, as determined by team policy at the beginning of school year


Observe lesson facilitation and provide structured feedback to AmeriCorps Members:


· Provide one-on-one and team-level academic intervention training and support to AmeriCorps Members


· Provide focused support to help AmeriCorps Members deliver quality tutoring for their students to help improve grades, complete homework, and organize for success in school


· Create and implement system for observation follow up. Issue assessment report on challenges, achievements, best practices and lessons learned from observations, bi-monthly check-ins and trainings deliveredJob Description

What You’ve Already Done

· Experience working in afterschool setting

· Experience in lesson planning

· Experience working with middle school youth

· Experience managing others

· Have experience or an interest in student learning and instruction in after-school programs

· Facilitation or presentation experience preferred

· Have mastered excellent behavior management in a classroom
