Executive Director

After over 8 years, GEM has successfully grown to a reputable and sustainable organization with sought-after programming. The position of Executive Director (ED) presents an opportunity for someone with a passion for transforming the criminal legal system to assist in the continued growth of the organization and to scale programming.

Reporting to the Founder & President, the person occupying this role will be responsible for the planning, organization, and direction of GEM’s operations and programming. They will lead a small staff, engage with dozens of volunteers and community stakeholders, and help to empower hundreds of justice-impacted women and girls.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Oversee general operations including programs, marketing & communications, and building a supportive work environment.
• Work alongside the President & Board of Directors to develop an annual budget, assist with fundraising, and oversee financial management of the organization.
• Play a key, public-facing role by cultivating and nurturing relationships with community stakeholders, promoting the organization’s mission & visibility, and contributing to funder relationships.
• In concert with the President, Board, and staff, build and implement a strategic plan which will guide the organization through continued growth.
• Keep abreast of trends within, and collaborate with various sectors of, criminal justice reform and gender rights advocacy.
• Share knowledge and increase awareness of GEM’s approach and impact through external publications and presentations when possible.

Experience & Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years of experience in nonprofit management and/or growing and scaling programs. Candidates who have been personally impacted by the criminal justice system and/or are deeply committed to criminal justice reform efforts are encouraged to apply.

Skills &Abilities:

• Strong identification with the goals and mission of GEM
• Demonstrated public leadership abilities and managerial experience
• Proven ability to substantially scale programming with a strong theory of change
• Proven project management skills including design, execution, and resource management
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and move them toward shared goals
• Strong writing and verbal communication, including giving presentations and writing reports
• Knowledge of MS Office, Google Workspace, and/or other database systems highly preferred
