For over 15 years, the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) has been leading online education in New York. Notable for offering the most online bachelor’s and master’s degree options at the City University of New York, and for serving transfer students as the University system’s only undergraduate all-transfer college, CUNY SPS meets the needs of adults who wish to finish a bachelor’s degree, progress from an associate’s degree, earn a master’s degree or certificate in a specialized field, and advance in the workplace or change careers.

The School’s growth has been remarkable, with twenty-four degrees launched since 2006. Enrollment has risen by more than 30% in the last four years to over 4,000 students in the credit-bearing programs. Thousands more are enrolled in non-degree and grant-funded workplace learning programs. In addition, the School has an active alumni network and has established the CUNY SPS Foundation, which offers multiple scholarship opportunities to current students.

CUNY SPS has consistently been named by U.S. News & World Report as one of the country’s top online institutions. This year, the School was ranked in the top 2% in the nation on the publisher’s list of the 2021 Best Online Bachelor’s Degree Programs.

CUNY SPS is seeking a Finance Coordinator (Accounting) to perform various tasks of the Business Office. Reporting to the Finance Specialist, in addition to the CUNY title overview, the Finance Coordinator (Accounting) will:

  • Perform financial transactions for both Tax Levy and Non-tax levy entities including tuition & fees, CUNY SPS Association, and CUNY SPS Foundation.
  • Coordinate purchase requisitions, payment requests and other financial documents to ensure workflow is timely and accurate.
  • Coordinate with departments to resolve processing issues in a timely manner.
  • Generate invoices, record transactions, and process payment requisitions.
  • Prepare special reports by collecting and analyzing account information on tuition and fee revenue and related entities.
  • Perform bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with mid-year and end-of-year procedures.
  • Provide assistance in preparation of CUNY SPS internal and external audits.

-Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures, and audit transactions for accuracy and compliance.

  • Collaborate with the offices of Accounting, Accounts Payable, Budget, and Payroll on related projects and activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

The preferred candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • Accounting experience at CUNY.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with CUNYfirst, CUNY and NYS systems.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office Programs, particularly Excel (Pivot table, V-Lookup, Macro and formula functions).
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative as well as working collaboratively in a demanding, and complex work environment.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Performs financial analysis and administrative work related to College or unit accounting.

  • Prepares, reconciles and distributes expenditure and related accounting reports
  • Creates and maintains various spreadsheets related to financial analysis
  • Processes and tracks transactional entries
  • Provides support in the administration of various business operations
  • Coordinates with various departments on accounting matters
  • Monitors systems and operations to assure a smooth workflow
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience up $62,385.
