Come join us!The Diversify Veterinary Medicine Coalition (DVMC) is seeking an individual to lead and grow with our organization as we pursue our mission of breaking down barriers in education and creating pathways for underrepresented communities to pursue careers in veterinary medicine. We believe that diversity in the provision of veterinary medicine leads to better care, richer perspectives, and healthier animals.

    Deputy Executive Director for nonprofit organization focused on reducing barriers to education and increasing diversity in veterinary medicine.

    Fully remote/work from home anywhere in the United States

    Part Time: 20 hours per week initially, with potential for more

    Travel: some travel is required within the US for major veterinary conferences such as VMX, WVC, and AVMA; anticipate 3-5 weeks of travel annually.

    We seek an individual with leadership skills, a strong focus on collaboration to drive impact, the ability to develop, maintain and grow partnerships, and a deep understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for underrepresented individuals and communities. We are willing to invest in training and development to supplement the skillset of a promising leader. The role of the Deputy Executive Director is a new role, and is part of succession plan for the current leadership and growth of the organization.

    Responsibilities of the Deputy Executive Director include but are not limited to:

    • Supporting the Executive Director in developing programming to support veterinary students through their educational journey, including the provision of scholarships and paid internships.
    • Acting as an interface between scholarship organizations and the DVMC.
    • Cultivating donor relationships.

    An approximate allocation of time for the role and non-exclusive list of areas of responsibility is anticipated to be:

    25% Supporting committee and board meetings

    15% Supporting student initiatives

    15% Financial review and management

    15% Relationship management with sponsors and affiliated organizations

    10% Presentations and student events

    15% Development of infrastructure, resources etc

    Required qualifications, experience, and attributes:

    • Education: Required bachelor’s degree or equivalent with preference for business administration, non-profit management or animal health focus; prefer

    certification in not-for-profit management such as a Certified

    Association Executive or similar

    Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States as an employee

    • Required skills:
      • We are seeking an organized person who is professional, responsive, and able to work well with a team, with a high level of personal motivation and organization.
      • Strong communication, writing and editing
      • Strong self-direction and time management
      • Proficiency with online meeting tools, Google suite, email, MS office
      • Project management, including timeline and milestone management, budget management and successfully achieving deliverables as an individual contributor and when working with others.
    • General fiscal responsibility and knowledge of basic principles of budgeting, accounting and expense reconciliation
    • Preferred experiences and background:
      • Working with or supporting students who are historically under-represented in veterinary medicine majors(including but not limited to students who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and/or the first generation to pursue post-secondary education)
      • Working with nonprofit organizations or charities, boards of directors, volunteers and committees, and demonstrated ability to achieve results in this unique environment
      • Grant writing and grant management
      • Managing and supporting external contractors
      • Sponsor/donor relationship management
      • Knowledge of governance and regulations pertaining to nonprofit organizations
      • Knowledge of the animal health or veterinary industries

    Remuneration:

    • $50,000-$60,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
