Summary 

The Center for Family Representation( CFR) is searching for an experienced Managing Director of Social Work (DSW). The DSW will work closely with the Executive Director and Director of Litigation and be primarily responsible for CFR’s social work practice and will report to the Executive Director. 


Job Description 

CFR is creating a Managing Director of Social Work (DSW) position that will serve all boroughs in which CFR practices and be responsible for the overall quality and consistency of the social work practice at CFR. They will supervise and support the social work practice in Family Defense, Youth Defense, as well as our Home for Good practice areas (Criminal Defense, Immigration, and Civil). The DSW will work closely with the Executive Director, Managing Director of Litigation (DOL), and other directors and supervisors to develop a strategic approach to CFR’s social work practice and promote CFR’s reputation as a recognized leader in the field of holistic practice and help shepherd the development and expansion of new practice areas to serve CFR’s clients. 

 

Location: 

CFR has offices in Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens. The DSW is expected to have a frequent presence in each office and courthouse in which CFR practices.

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Working closely with the Executive Director, DOL, COO, CFO and other internal and external stakeholders work to create a strategic vision for the agency 
  • Working to ensure high quality representation, consistent practice, and quality assurance to achieve best practices across the entire agency 
  • Along with CFR's ED and COO as well as other CFR leadership, taking on an integral role in expanding and developing organizational initiatives related to DEIB and achieving CFR's long-term goal of becoming an anti-racist organization 
  • Having a routine, physical presence in each court in which CFR practices, including supervising intake when necessary and providing coverage 
  • Supervising director level staff as well as supervisors, senior staff, and parent advocates as needed 
  • Managing resources effectively 
  • Working closely with the Executive Director, Director of Litigation to develop litigation and social work strategy and lead processes to develop collaboration with borough directors, supervisors, senior staff, and other CFR stakeholders. 
  • Managing CFR’s MSW internship program and provide supervision to staff supervising interns 
  • Working with Executive Director, DOL, and COO to support managers in learning the managerial role 
  • Providing robust performance reviews for direct reports 
  • Representing CFR in various external meetings, trainings, and conferences - Assist Litigation Supervisor for Training in ensuring the social work perspective is included in all training.
  • Assisting social work directors and supervisors in analyzing and making decisions on potential ethical issues in CFR’s social work practice; developing, disseminating and ensuring compliance with CFR’s conflict check procedure 
  • Supporting borough specific directors in monitoring caseloads and deliverables on government contracts 
  • Working closely with the ED, DOL, and CFO to meet CFR’s contractual obligations and reporting requirements 
  • Working with the ED, DOL, COO, and Deputy CFO to determine staffing for the agency. 

Required: 

  • LMSW or LCSW 
  • At least 8 years of experience in Article 10/TPR family court proceedings - Experience supervising senior level staff 
  • Race and identity competency. Experience leading racially diverse teams and creating equitable and inclusive environments. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to an integrated strategy, including social work, litigation, policy and community engagement. 
  • Experience with administration, training, organizational or program development - Ability to communicate effectively in multiple written forms and oral advocacy contexts 
  • Teamwork skills and an aptitude for problem solving and management of staff


Desirable: 

  • Experience working in a holistic practice 
  • Experience providing social work support or supervision in criminal defense, youth defense, public assistance, or immigration matters.


Travel: 

Travel between boroughs is required on a frequent basis. Travel for conferences and training may also be required.
