New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office, dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexity, chronic health conditions, significant disabilities and behavioral challenges. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Facilities Assistant to join its Office Services.  

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Office Services, the Facilities Assistant has the primary responsibility for assisting in maintaining the office environment in such a way to promote safety. It is the role of the Facilities Assistant to follow daily, weekly and monthly task schedules including, but not limited to all office, client, storage, restroom, kitchen and general use areas. These duties include building and facility maintenance responsibilities. The Facilities Assistant will also provide Reception Coverage on some weekends and weekday evenings.

Department: Office Services

Schedule: Weekdays from 12-8pm; daytime hours on some Saturdays or Sundays

Description of Responsibilities: 

  • Daily rounds checking environment for hazards that pose a safety risk to staff and clients.
  • The Facilities Assistant reports the following to the Assistant Director of Office Services:

a)    Need for cleaning supplies or equipment to perform responsibilities.

b)    Water leaks and other facility damage or needs.

c)    All safety hazards noticed.

  • Minor wall repair
  • Painting
  • Respond to spills, accidents and other clean up emergencies that pose a risk to staff/clients or environment.
  • Receive and store deliveries of office supplies, equipment and food.
  • Light electrical and plumbing maintenance and repairs
  • Process Office Service Request Forms                     
  • Reception Coverage              
  • Furniture Moving
  • High office dusting of fixtures, windows and moldings.
  • Light janitorial maintenance (sweeping, mopping, garbage removal)
  • Dust/wipe furniture, fixtures, walls, machines, and equipment.
  • Rug spot cleaning.
  • Check office machines to ensure cleanliness and operability; report findings to Assistant Director of Office Services
  • Inspect restrooms to ensure proper functioning of all bathroom equipment.
  • Assist Office Staff as requested with meeting room set-up and related tasks.
  • Requisition of supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.

Required Education and Experience:  

·      High school or equivalent (Preferred)

  • Experience in the custodial field a plus.
  • 1 year of related experience required
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning methods required.
  • Light maintenance and repair skills required.
  • Effective oral skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position are required.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must successfully complete employment clearance requirements
