Camden Greenways, Inc. (CGI) is seeking part-time help (to be paid as a self-employed consultant) to coordinate stewardship and community engagement activity related to trails in Camden, NJ. Applicants should have good writing, basic word processing, digital communication, interpersonal, public speaking, community engagement and event planning skills. Some experience with open space planning, development and management as well as grant proposal writing is desired. Spanish proficiency and experience working or volunteering in the City of Camden is strongly desired but not required. Must be able to engage in physical activities such as on-trail cleanups, walking and bike rides. Hours will be flexible, initially about 10-15 hours/week, with the opportunity to expand depending on need and funding. Must be available to attend some weekend activities. Planning and coordination work can be performed mostly from home. Attendance at assorted meetings (mostly virtual; some in-person) and in-person community engagement events is expected.

Camden Greenways, Inc. has been active in Camden for almost 30 years, coordinating a coalition of government agencies, non-profit entities, and citizen advocates interested in developing and sustaining a system of continuous greenways in Camden, NJ. Over that time, it shared this work and developed close working relationships with the City of Camden, Camden County Parks and Recreation, and the New Jersey Conservation Foundation as well as other organizations. That work continues today. Much of the greenways system is planned, with some portions of the system now in place.

The Camden Greenways Program Coordinator consultant would focus on the following tasks:

1. Coordinating various stakeholder organizations including city, county and state partners, quasi-public, non-profit entities, and grassroots organizations serving residents near trail and open space development projects (see below).

2. Sharing information among stakeholders.

3. Working with the CGI board to set priorities for the organization.

4. Ensuring strong accountability to the impacted communities as trails are developed.

5. Coordinating assistance with the maintenance and stewardship of existing Camden area trails

6. Coordinating organized activities and events (bird watching, community festivals, biking, nature walks, kayaking, cleanups etc.) that bring attention to, and make use of, the Camden Greenways trail system.

7. Advancing new projects, including creating structure for and implementing the Camden County BikeShare Program in the City of Camden.

8. Conducting community outreach and listening sessions to ensure existing and future trails reflect the needs and interests of residents.

9. Implementing advocacy campaigns, as needed.

10. Recruiting resident volunteers and developing leaders to take on greater responsibility in the programming and maintenance of the Camden trails.

11. Seeking funding from NJ Green Acres funds, and other sources to support these efforts.

Key partners include: Trust for Public Land; Delaware Riverkeeper Network; Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority (CCMUA); Rails to Trails Conservancy; Friends of Cooper River Park West; Camden Community Partnership; New Jersey Tree Foundation; Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission; South Jersey Land and Water Trust; Circuit Trails Coalition; Sierra Club; Parkside Business and Community in Partnership (PBCIP); Camden Lutheran Housing; St. Joseph’s Carpenter Society, Heart of Camden.

Pay: $15-30/per hour, depending on experience
