Development Program Manager, Grants & Fundraising

AsylumWorks is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. established to empower asylum seekers and other migrants seeking humanitarian-based legal protection. AsylumWorks is seeking a full-time Development Program Manager, Grants & Fundraising with proven grant writing and fundraising skills to contribute to the strategic growth and expansion of AsylumWorks. This position serves two primary functions: (1) research, write, and submit compelling grants that articulately communicate AsylumWorks' mission, vision, values, and commitment to uplift humanitarian migrants; and 2) support the development team in executing high-quality, creative, and results-driven fundraising efforts. This position will be supervised by the Director of Training and Partnerships. This position requires an in-office presence a minimum of two days a week. AsylumWorks’ office is located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood in Northwest D.C. Fully remote candidates will not be considered. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Writing (50%)

• Write compelling letters of inquiry (LOIs) and other professional correspondence for institutional foundations, government agencies, and family foundations.
• Conduct all administrative duties for grant submission, including ensuring that grants are submitted on time and include all required information.
• Ensure all renewal and reporting requirements are met, including compliance with funder regulations, policies, and procedures. 
• Develop, review, and update standard proposal language for general operating support and programs.
• Work with the Executive Director and the Director of Training and Partnerships to craft strategic narratives that align with organizational and programmatic goals.

Research and Prospecting (20%)

• Conduct prospecting research to identify grant opportunities from federal/state/local governments, corporations, and foundations.
• Manage grants calendar to keep track of various deadlines and timelines.
• Observe and identify key trends in the grantmaking sphere to appropriate position AsylumWorks proposals. 
• Remain up-to-date on current events that align with AsylumWorks’ programs. 

Fundraising and Other Development Activities (30%)

• Work closely with the Director of Training and Partnerships to execute and manage AsylumWorks’ two annual fundraising campaigns.
• Manage in-house CRM platform to track the performance of fundraising efforts and analyze data to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
• When appropriate, manage vendors and consultants to ensure digital and snail-mail campaigns are executed.
• Assist with other development activities as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS

• A demonstrated interest in AsylumWorks’ mission and vision;
• Bachelor's degree in related field. Masters degree preferred;
• 5+ years of grant writing experience with evidence of grants won;
• 3+ years of individual gifts and/or fundraising experience with evidence of campaign success including monetary goals;
• Excellent written communication skills including the ability to effectively convey and synthesize complex information to a wide range of audiences;
• Critical thinker who is comfortable voicing opinions and ideas in a collaborative setting;
• Strong organizational and time management skills;
• Excellent attention to detail;
• High level of initiative, resourcefulness, and thoroughness; 
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently within a multidisciplinary setting;
• Able to multi-task in a fast-paced nonprofit environment;
• An inherent desire to create, improve and problem-solve;
• A demonstrated awareness of cultural humility;
• Valid U.S. Work Authorization; and
• Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19. 

SALARY

$55,000-$60,000 commensurate with experience.
