GJC’s innovative legal team develops creative, far-reaching, and authoritative legal analyses as the basis for establishing progressive legal precedents, and conducts strategic advocacy to achieve normative and systemic change. Change must be driven by those most affected, so in partnership with sister organizations around the world, we leverage our unique access, power, and position to power-share with grassroots actors and amplify women’s voices for change at every level.

Job Summary

GJC is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Development Manager with a passion for human rights and the ability to synthesize complex ideas and explain them simply and engagingly. The Development Manager will serve as a key leadership team member and an active participant in strategic decisions affecting the organization. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build GJC’s visibility, impact, and financial resources, and is responsible for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support. 

We are looking for a dedicated fundraiser who is familiar with the world of international human rights, advocacy and philanthropy with experience spearheading successful fundraising campaigns for both foundations and major donors as well as managing grant compliance and reporting.

Responsibilities

Donor Cultivation and Revenue Growth

  • Develop and lead annual and multi-year fundraising plans and define philanthropic goals and strategies in line with GJC’s new five-year strategic framework
  • Support the mapping of funders’ areas of interest, programs, and plans to GJC’s new strategic goals, and lead donor prospecting 
  • Oversee the production of donor materials, including the drafting of correspondence and donor communications, meeting memos, case materials and other background materials
  • Prepare quarterly evaluations of fundraising activities, including annual and multi-year income actuals and projections, for the President and Board of Directors
  • Maintain an annual fundraising calendar and quarterly goals and manage the fundraising efforts of GJC’s Board members, as well as major individual donors
  • Manage and cultivate relationships with institutional funders

Fundraising and Grants Management 

  • Oversee and expand the individual donor giving program, particularly major donors 
  • Manage the grant proposal development and submission process; ensuring that proposals, reports and other documents are well written, strategic, and submitted on schedule
  • Support partnerships with peer NGOs in the writing and submission of joint grant proposals, and manage joint grant reporting processes
  • Collaborate with all departments to develop consistent messaging and fundraising strategies
  • Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors, including a robust major donor strategy 
  • Utilize and maintain donor database in Salesforce as a tool for growth

Leadership and Project Management

  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, reporting directly to the President, and generally participate in the management and goal-setting for the organization, including strategic planning, infrastructure planning, staffing and budgeting
  • Prepare and present any materials necessary to ensure that Board members are appropriately informed about fundraising goals, achievements, and expectations
  • Supervise and support the professional development of one full-time staff member

Skills/Experience/Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree OR commensurate experience required
  • A minimum of 5 years of non-profit fundraising experience (within an advocacy organization focused on international human rights and/or gender equality preferred)
  • Experience developing and managing innovative donor cultivation strategies 
  • Experience planning, managing, and executing fundraising campaigns
  • Experience developing and managing grant-related budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and strong organizational skills and self-direction
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to explain complex or nuanced gender and/or human rights-based issues
  • Strong computer and database skills, especially with Microsoft Excel and Salesforce
  • Experience working with legal organizations, legal theories or non-direct service nonprofits is a plus

Salary

$73,000 - $83,000 annually
