    JOB SUMMARY

    The Associate Director of the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership’s Center for

    Women in Government will assist in the mission to prepare women for public service and

    leadership in their communities by showcasing the success of elected women and other women

    of influence in Texas. A primary goal of the CWG is to raise awareness of the many ways in

    which women can serve on commissions, school boards, and in elected positions. This position

    will be responsible for the supervision and direction of specific staff and students in the CWG.

    The Associate Director reports to the Director of the CWG. Work is performed under minimal

    supervision with a broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment and performance is

    based on the effective operation of the administrative function. The performance evaluation is

    conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University

    Policies & Procedures.

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

    Reports to: Director, Center for Women in Government

    Supervises: Program Coordinator, Coordinator, Outreach & Educational Programming, and Student Assistants

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

    • Develops curriculum and teaches the fundamentals of the political process.
    • Assists with the goals, methodology, and outcomes for the CWG.
    • Guides the development and implementation of programming, working with the director to establish a long-term strategic plan.
    • Develops goals and strategies to enhance the Center’s reputation, including researching what other programs are accomplishing.
    • Organizes details for programming and special events, scheduling and detailing logistics and preparing a post-event report.
    • Manages staff and interns.
    • Responsible for establishing job standards for subordinate staff and effectively evaluating staff under charge. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.
    • Represents TWU and the CWG in both public and private meetings.
    • Is knowledgeable about current events, politics, and public policy, both in Texas and nationally.
    • Provides professional tours of the Sue S. Bancroft Women’s Leadership Hall to high-level visitors such as the Chancellor, elected officials, University Advancement prospects, etc.
    • Prepares weekly reports for the Director of the CWG.
    • Develops a database of contacts and prepares newsletters as needed.
    • Develops, maintains, and catalogs relationships with community, state, and national leaders.
    • Guides students through research development projects and program execution.

    ADDITIONAL DUTIES

    • Serves on university committees as assigned.
    • Performs other duties as requested.

    EDUCATION

    Master’s degree in social policy, public policy or a closely related field required. Additional job-related experience/and/or education may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    EXPERIENCE

    Three years of related experience. Budget experience preferred.

    REQUIREMENT

    Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours

    is an essential function of this position. All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy

    • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
    • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
    • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.

    assigned tasks safely and efficiently, and supervisors are responsible for creating and

    practices, as well as any near-miss incidents, to their supervisor and Risk Management.

    Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the

    Office of Human Resources and Risk Management within 24 hours of the incident.
