Ithaca Waldorf School seeks Business Manager, 2022

Beginning: June 1, 2022

The Ithaca Waldorf School (www.ithacawaldorf.org) is seeking a strategic “builder” to take on the business manager role for 20 hours/week. The ideal candidate is highly versed in business management responsibilities of a growing school, non-profit, or business, and can transition seamlessly between strategy-setting, implementation and day-to-day business administration. While some of the work can be completed off-site, it is expected that the business manager will be on-site for at least 12 hours per week. Currently, the Ithaca Waldorf school extends from Grade One through Eight, in addition to providing full day Early Childhood programs, which are fully accredited by the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (www.waldorfearlychildhood.org).  

The independent, not-for-profit Ithaca Waldorf School is authorized by the New York State Department of Education to provide instruction through eighth grade. IWS is currently an Associate Member School of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (www.waldorfeducation.org). The Ithaca Waldorf School is nestled in the New York Finger Lakes on an 80-acre organic campus composed of field, forest and a biodynamic educational farm (www.youthfarmproject.org). Our Faculty, Administration and Board enjoy a warm collegial relationship and work collaboratively to strengthen the school’s growth. 

Business Manager responsibilities include: 

• Developing budgets in collaboration with the Board, Administration and Faculty
• Forecasting and updating all financial indicators with accuracy and timeliness
• Cash flow management
• Overseeing and managing tuition accounts through a third party provider
• Human resources administration and file maintenance
• Bookkeeping (e.g. payroll, data entry, accounts receivable, accounts payable)
• Structuring employee benefits in consultation with the Finance Committee of the Board
• Managing relationship with lawyers, bankers, accountants, insurance companies
• Overseeing bank accounts and brokerage accounts
• Attending regular Finance Committee meetings
• Processing fiscal requests from Faculty & Administrative Staff
• Providing monthly financial reports to the Board
• Supporting annual audit and tax preparation

Basic qualifications include: 

• Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) 5 years work experience in finance or business management  
• Fluent in excel, google sheets, and quickbooks online
• Non-profit experience a plus
• Good communication skills and a caring, professional manner
• Detail oriented with proven organizational skills
• Self-motivated
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 

Preferred qualifications include:

• 3-7 years work experience in finance or business management
• Experience at Waldorf school or organization
