About FIAF: The French Institute Alliance Française is the leading French language and cultural center in the U.S. As an American not-for-profit organization, FIAF's mission is to create and offer New Yorkers innovative and unique programs in education and the arts that explore the evolving diversity and richness of French and francophone cultures. FIAF has an extensive French-language library, a vibrant Language Center, and a robust array of innovative programming in both French and English. Cinema, visual arts, lectures, and live performance cement FIAF's role as the destination for French and francophone culture in New York City.


FIAF’s Principal Activities

●       Language courses at FIAF Manhattan and FIAF Montclair, NJ

●       Cultural programs, including two large-scale, multi-disciplinary performing arts festivals per year

●       Cinema (weekly film series, special film premieres, and Animation Festival)

●       Special events (across fashion, décor, beauty, food and wine, etc.)

●       Talks, conferences, panel discussions, and lectures with authors, politicians, and celebrities

●       Art exhibitions in the FIAF Gallery

●       Children’s programs and education outreach

 

Position Summary: FIAF seeks an experienced, highly organized, and creative candidate for the open position of Communications Director. Under the direction of the Vice President of Marketing & Communications, the Communications Director is responsible for all FIAF press, public relations, and social media.


Main Responsibilities:

●       Create, implement, and oversee strategies and timelines for communications, public relations, press, and social media

●       Devise innovative press strategies, write press releases, distribute press materials and media packages, maintain media contact lists in diverse fields, obtain preview articles, press listings and reviews, and manage press archives, photos, and digital files

●       Create dynamic institutional and editorial content for all FIAF’s channels, including the website, newsletters, and social media

●       Work closely with the programming teams and artists to best determine communication plans for each FIAF event or initiative

●       Work closely with the Language Center to best determine communication plans for seasonal language courses

●       Coordinate with members of the press as well as the press departments of partner organizations to keep FIAF’s message/brand consistent

●       Create a social media strategy that gives FIAF a distinct social identity, and helps grow audience and engagement across all channels, particularly Instagram and Facebook.

●       Manage and maintain the monitoring and analytics systems to track traditional media and social media engagement, including important news items

●       Monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of FIAF news/announcements


Qualifications

●       Education: Bachelors in a Communications, Marketing, or related field preferred

●       Minimum 5 years of proven successful experience in press, media relations and/or social media

●       Experience at an educational, cultural, or art institution strongly preferred

●       Large network of press contacts across a wide range of media platforms

●       Proven management skills, with the ability to supervise and direct activities in the area of public relations and social media

●       Proven experience in growing social media audience and engagement

●       Innovative and creative thinker

●       Ability to be efficient and effective in a fast-paced environment

●       Must have primary or bilingual fluency in written and spoken English

●       Advanced French language skills are strongly preferred

●       Must have fluency with MS Office, Google suite, and databases; Adobe suite experience preferred

●       Must be a good team player and communicator, particularly in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, bilingual environment

●        Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or World Health Organization (WHO) authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a qualified disability or sincerely held religious belief or other legal basis).
