Position Summary

Foundation Communities seeks a full-time grant writer for a primarily on-site staff position, with some WFH flexibility for COVID safety. We need an experienced and competent writer who enjoys being a fundraiser, storyteller, and advocate, plus has the skills necessary—computer acumen, experience with metrics, deadline-driven, intellectual flexibility, research capabilities—to put together complete grants packages for a wide variety of funding sources. This grant writer must be able to work as part of a team and with a broad spectrum of programs and staff. Government grants experience a plus. Position will be filled at Grant Writer or Senior Grant Writer level depending on the background of the selected candidate.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Identify, research, and help develop relationships with prospective institutional donors
  • Author proposals, both independently and in concert with other staff, for foundations, corporations, and governmental agencies
  • Assist the Director of Institutional Giving in compiling larger funding proposals
  • Maintain calendar systems to track grant application and report deadlines, record contacts and correspondence, and acknowledge gifts
  • Maintain donor files and donor database
  • Assist with grants tracking and reporting
  • Assist with additional development-related projects as needed

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as liaison with programs; help to establish cross-departmental relationships and identify funding priorities and opportunities
  • Provide communications assistance and editing for other Foundation Communities departments

Minimum Qualifications (experience, education, credentials, language):

  • Proficient writer: clear, concise, quick, audience-specific
  • Minimum three years of grant writing experience required; more experience, including government grants, and advanced degree preferred
  • Highly organized; able to plan work flow and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to take instruction and work as part of a team
  • Good communicator; able to work effectively with a variety of staff to develop and present strong proposals
  • Strong computer/technology/database skills
  • Able to connect with Foundation Communities’ work and mission
  • Strong understanding of evaluation metrics and outcomes measurement preferred

Physical Demands/Work Environment: (include amount of lifting, twisting, bending, sitting, standing, keyboarding, driving, noise, indoor/outdoor etc.)

  • Office sharing (some noise/headphones if you want music)
  • Personal appearances representing Institutional Giving (Grants Team) and/or prospecting with funders.

Compensation, Benefits & Perks

  • Salary: $62,000-68,000, depending on experience. Foundation Communities provides an excellent benefits package including employer paid health benefits, 401(k) investment opportunity, Employee Assistance Program, paid vacation, holiday, and sick time.
