Part-Time/Temporary Career Development Specialist

Summary:

The Neighborhood Developers (TND) seeks a seeks a Career Development Specialist, otherwise referred to as Jobs Navigator, to deliver career services to low- income Revere residents. The Career Development Specialist will be part of the CONNECT department and will assist job seekers from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience to conduct successful job searches and obtain employment or enroll in job training programs. Specifically, the Career Development Specialist will provide 1:1 career coaching, resume editing, interview preparation and help match clients with job openings and trainings.

This position is hybrid with some in-person services to be delivered at our satellite location in Revere and some remote.

We seek someone able to work 12 – 15 hours per week with the timing of those hours being flexible.

This position is currently funded through December 2022, with the possibility of extension. This is an exciting time to join a growing team at CONNECT dedicated to both rapid reemployment and building long-term sustainable jobs while working in coalition with other partners. We will provide training in becoming a career development specialist if the appropriate candidate is not already experienced in the field. Workforce development is a rapidly growing field.

CONNECT promotes the financial stability and mobility of residents of Chelsea, Revere, and Everett in close collaboration with partner organizations by providing holistic services. CONNECT’s formal partners are Metro Housing| Boston, Bunker Hill Community College, Metro Credit Union, and MassHire, and we also work extensively with other organizations including La Colaborativa, Women Encouraging Empowerment, Revere Community Schools, and the local municipalities.

CONNECT is a program of TND, a non-profit community development corporation with a mission to create strong neighborhoods enabling community members to secure a stable home, achieve economic mobility, and determine their own future. The organization builds affordable homes, supports households to achieve greater financial mobility, and organizes community leaders on issues related to neighborhood conditions as well as social and economic justice. TND’s headquarters is in Chelsea where it has operated since 1978. The organization expanded into Revere in 2010 and began offering some of its services in Everett in 2018. Essential Duties:

• Screen clients to ensure they are eligible following income guidelines


• Provide one-on-one career counseling services to Revere residents, including cover letter and resume editing, interview prep (including mock interviews), online application guidance, and soft skills training.

• Refer clients to necessary trainings, including helping them with MassHire’s resources

• Identify job openings and refer clients to employers and trainings

• Track clients served, progress and outcomes; follow-up as necessary

• Help provide information about placements for reports to funders.

• Encourage client awareness and usage of other CONNECT services.

Required Skills:

• Bi-lingual in English and Spanish

• Proficiency in a range of computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel and database

• Experience working with low-income clients from a variety of racial/ethnic groups and countries.

• Demonstrated ability to manage time, prioritize appropriately among multiple competing demands, and solve problems.

• Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to work independently.

• Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
