Insight Garden Program - Development Manager

Insight Garden Program (IGP) is seeking a full-time Development Manager. Our ideal candidate is someone who is excited to join a dynamic team that will support the management and growth of diverse funding streams for IGP. They are passionate about social, criminal, and environmental justice and excited to support IGP’s sustainability and strategic growth in California and nationally.

Who We Are

Founded in 2002, IGP is a nonprofit organization that facilitates an innovative 48-week curriculum that combines environmental education, permaculture gardening, “inner gardening” and reentry skills. Our core purpose is to reconnect people to self, community, and the natural world in prisons and beyond. We currently run our program in ten California state prisons and provide reentry support to all IGP participants.

Position Summary

The Development Manager is a key staff person in IGP’s efforts to grow and sustain our government and philanthropic funding for programs in prisons, reentry, and the community. They will work closely with the Executive Director and Deputy Director and collaborate with the communications coordinator, grant writing consultants, managers, and our advisory committees. This staff person will support the development and implementation of IGP's short and long term fundraising strategy. This is an exciting moment to join the IGP team as we celebrate 20 years of our nationally recognized work.

What You’ll Do

The Development Manager’s major areas of responsibility include:

• Grants management: track prospects, proposals, reports, and renewals
• Team coordination: manage weekly development team meetings and agendas
• Grant writing: identify and apply for grants and contracts with support of the development team  
• Communications: inform and support the writing of newsletters, appeals and other donor communications
• Database management: manage our donor relations and giving in Salesforce; ensures that all data and gifts are properly processed and recorded
• Campaigns: in collaboration with the development and communications team - plan, implement, and manage fundraising campaigns throughout the year
• Events: coordinate and support the development team with fundraising events

• Project management and organization: You have the capacity to hold multiple moving projects at once. From grants and reports to donor tracking and events, you are someone who enjoys coordination, building timelines, and knows how to thoughtfully delegate.
• Adaptive communication: You know how to clearly and effectively communicate our vision, values, and intersectionality to different audiences. You understand the power of language and utilize a values-centered approach when writing. 
• Creative and collaborative: You will be working with an incredible staff with diverse backgrounds and expertise. You have experience facilitating collaborative and generative spaces, synthesizing ideas, and determining capacity to move forward.
• Technology savvy: You not only understand how digital tools and platforms function, you also understand how they support organization, productivity, collaboration, and efficiency. You have a willingness to learn new tools and know how to intuitively navigate different platforms. 

Bonus Points (the nice to haves)

• Three years of experience in fundraising for nonprofits 
• Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, specifically Salesforce
• Experience with grant writing
• Personal connection to the healing aspects of the natural world
• Familiarity or existing relationships with funders and individual donors

Salary & Benefits: This is a full-time position with a target start date of July 1, 2022. IGP offers a competitive salary (commensurate with experience) and benefits package which includes cell phone/internet stipend; medical, dental, and vision insurance; and unlimited PTO. 

Location: This is a remote position; being based in California is preferred.
