The American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC) promotes common sense immigration reform that advances economic competitiveness, provides companies with both the high-skilled and low-skilled talent they need, and allows the integration of immigrants into our economy as consumers, workers, entrepreneurs, and citizens.

ABIC is active in key states and communities across the country, engaging activists, advocates, business leaders, and elected officials on the urgency of passing immigration reform that boosts our economy, creates jobs, eases the labor shortage, and supports families. The goal of our bipartisan coalition of over 1200 diverse businesses and business associations is to provide a strong and effective voice seeking sensible immigration reforms to grow our economy and strengthen our families. Currently, ABIC is active in 16 states including Illinois, Florida, Texas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, South Carolina, North Carolina, Colorado, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Arizona, Idaho, Utah, and Nevada.

POSITION SUMMARY

ABIC is a rapidly growing organization with significant potential for further revenue expansion. For the right candidate, this position offers the chance to creatively contribute to fundraising strategy and systems, and to help establish new financial support and partnerships to further our mission. Working under the Director of Development, the Development Associate will play a critical role in building out ABIC’s fundraising operations, outreach, and revenue streams. This role will work collaboratively across the organization and assist on a variety of Development initiatives, including grant and report submission, drafting new and updating current fundraising collateral, events support, prospect research, database maintenance and management, and supporter services such as invoices and acknowledgements.

The Development Associate will have strong writing and communication skills, administrative and organization experience, exceptional attention to detail, the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, creativity, and flexibility.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working closely with the Development Director, support with creation and execution of ABIC’s overall fundraising strategy, help establish tactics, messaging, and benchmarks.
  • Help to draft and submit funder proposals, letters of inquiry and reports, including compiling and preparing data. Track due dates, award letters, check scans, and all other funder communications.
  • Draft/send acknowledgments, invoices, and any other documentation for grant and gift payments. Track payments and pledges, and generate giving reports and analyses.
  • Manage Development calendar, help generate copy for appeals and updates, and coordinate recipient lists.
  • Work with the Development Director to build out systems and best practices for grant and gift portfolio management, donor tracking and cultivation, and support of Senior Leadership Team and State Directors’ fundraising efforts.
  • Research and support outreach to new prospective revenue sources – both national and in ABIC’s active regions – such as corporate partners, private and family foundations, government grants, and individual and major donors.
  • Assist on all in-person and virtual fundraising events such as briefings, summits, and hosted engagements, including with invitations/RSVPs, helping with logistics, materials, outreach, and follow-up.
  • Assist with other development tasks as needed.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-3 years of professional experience in Development and/or nonprofit administration.
  • Exceptional writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience with fundraising campaigns, major gift solicitation, events, online fundraising, annual appeals, and membership drives is a plus.
  • Ability to be a flexible team player who is comfortable with shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Has demonstrated outstanding follow-through, is proactive and takes initiative to see multiple concurrent projects through to completion.
  • Experience with CRM database systems, including EveryAction and complex spreadsheets, a plus. Highly accurate and careful.
  • Knowledge of and background in immigration issues at national, state, and local levels is a plus.
