Nuclear energy is the largest carbon-free energy source in the United States, making NEI an essential voice in conversations on climate and environmental challenges.

The Senior Manager of Media Relations will join an innovative team of communication strategists, responsible for changing perceptions of nuclear energy and placing nuclear in relevant conversations around climate, finance and energy policy. The senior manager is a strategic leader responsible for leading the media team to elevate NEI’s voice across media platforms.

This position reports to the Senior Director of External Communications and frequently interacts with members of the external communications team and across all departments at NEI. This role will have two direct reports and is expected to build relationships with member company communicators.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

·      Lead the development and execution of NEI’s earned media plan.

·      Provide day-to-day oversight of media operations and offer cross-organization counsel on media strategies.

·      Lead development and execution of a broadcast media plan that positions NEI executives as thought leaders for broadcast television, radio and podcast appearances.

·      Oversee the development of news releases, NEI statements, talking points and op-eds.

·      Lead and participate in media events and executive prep meetings for media interviews.

·      Coordinate media efforts with member companies and industry organizations.

·      Collaborate with senior leadership of the content and digital team to ensure consistence of strategy and messaging.

·      Coordinate media relations activities with government and congressional press officers, coalitions supporting nuclear energy, and with independent third-party experts.


Requirements and Qualifications:

·      Bachelor’s degree in communications, print or broadcast journalism or public relations.

·      Minimum of seven years of experience in journalism or media relations. Capitol Hill or agency experience a plus.

·      Knowledge of how newsrooms function and a deep understanding of the key elements necessary for news coverage across multiple platforms (i.e. podcasts, television, print, radio).

·      Desire to foster innovation across a team and prioritize inclusivity and collaboration.

·      Existing relationships with bookers and producers for broadcast media, as well as digital/print reporters and editors.

·      Strong insights on strategic communications planning and execution.

·      Proven history of working collaboratively with other communications functions and subject matter experts.

·      Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated ability to artfully command a conversation.
