                                                    RECRUITMENT & RETENTION SPECIALIST: JOB DESCRIPTION

CLC is the largest children’s legal services organization in the nation, currently serving 30,000 clients in the Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Placer County child welfare systems. 

POSITION SUMMARY

CLC is seeking a Recruitment and Retention Specialist. This is a new role within CLC designed to deepen existing recruitment efforts, expand networks to reach diverse candidates, and successfully meet CLC’s hiring needs. The Recruitment and Retention Specialist will develop new, creative processes and procedures to develop and maintain a high-quality applicant pool in alignment with CLC’s Strategic Plan. The Specialist will assess job satisfaction and retention data to make recommendations to the Executive Team aimed at promoting loyalty and sustained high performance from all staff. The Recruitment and Retention Specialist will ensure that CLC attracts, hires, and retains the best employees while growing a strong talent pipeline.

The ideal candidate will have full-cycle recruiting experience, from identifying talent to interviewing, hiring, and shaping practices to retain high-caliber employees. They should be skilled in utilizing various outreach methods, including social media networks and employee referrals, to attract qualified candidates. A deep understanding of - and demonstrated commitment to – the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging are critical. This is a role for an outgoing, dynamic, strategic, and innovative professional who will drive CLC’s recruitment and retention efforts by being authentic, agile, connected, and technologically bold.

The Recruitment and Retention Specialist reports to the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the Director of DEI and the Human Resources Manager to design and implement effective initiatives and to develop a workflow to promote robust communication between all impacted departments and personnel. 
  • Frequently confer with department heads organization-wide as hiring and retention needs arise and proactively identify future needs.
  • With a mind toward increased staff diversity, conduct a thorough review of existing CLC hiring and retention practices, and make recommendations to the Executive Team regarding needed modifications and the development of new procedures and processes.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to expand recruiting efforts, including targeted outreach strategies, building relationships with schools/campuses, including Historically Black Universities and Colleges, and increasing partnerships with a diverse range of organizations to increase awareness of CLC and identify potential talent.
  • Modify language in CLC job descriptions to ensure the centering of DEIB as a core element of CLC’s work.
  • Work with the Communications Manager to develop social media strategies to position CLC as a highly attractive employer.
  • Explore and utilize new technologies to support recruitment efforts and align expectations with the new hybrid work model.
  • In collaboration with the Director of DEI, Director of Strategic Initiatives, and HR Manager, ensure that CLC recruitment and retention efforts are aligned with and further the goals of CLC's Strategic Plan.
  • Work with the Director of DEI to regularly assess organizational demographic data and address identified gaps.
  • Responsible for finding candidates for open positions; reviewing and processing applications; scheduling interviews; and managing all aspects of hiring.
  • Coordinate with the Director of DEI and Human Resources Manager to develop and implement strategies and initiatives as needed to improve and maintain employee satisfaction and minimize staff turnover.
  • Support new hires through the onboarding process.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of recruiting or comparable experience; an advanced degree (JD or master's degree in social work or related field) is preferred. Experience in or familiarity with the child welfare system in California is a plus, as is a background in diversity-specific recruiting. The position will be based in Los Angeles, California. Must be on-site frequently; some travel may be required.

  • Confidence and comfort with public speaking and proactive pursuit of networking opportunities
  • Ability to conduct research and work with data to support recruitment and retention needs and initiatives
  • A creative mindset and ability to employ innovative strategies to meet goals
  • Flexibility and ability to manage multiple potential candidates and projects simultaneously
  • High standards of ethical and professional conduct
