    Position Summary:

    This is a temporary full-time position which will be responsible for general fiscal support of the Autism Society of America (ASA)’s National Programs team. Specific areas of responsibility include nonprofit accounting report preparation for federal and private grants, general and grant related expense procedures, and assisting the Finance team and National Programs team with grant reporting, accounts payable, and budget management. Reports directly to the Director of Accounting. The position is for six months with a possibility of being extended or becoming permanent.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    Education and Experience:

    • Associate’s degree in finance or accounting, or 2 years of equivalent experience (required).
    • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting (preferred).

    Communication:

    • Excellent attention to detail and highly organized.
    • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
    • Regular use of telephone and email for communication is essential.
    • Experience with accounting, fundraising, database and bill payment software systems is preferred.
    • Proficiency in English required.

    Computer Skills: Competency in Microsoft office suite, including significant experience with Excel spreadsheets required.

    Physical Performance: Must be able to work in a small office environment with reasonable and appropriate accommodations if needed. This is an on-site position at the Autism Society office in Rockville, Maryland.

    Reasoning Ability: Must have ability to prioritize, multitask and make appropriate decisions.

    Other Skills:

    • Demonstrated excellence in accounting and finance.
    • Experience with grant accounting is preferred.
    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, be highly organized, assume responsibility, work well under pressure, multitask, be flexible, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
    • Must be even-tempered and have the ability to meet deadlines.
    • Enjoy working in a small team environment.

    Job Related Duties – Essential Functions:

    These duties are essential and specific to the successful implementation of this position.

    • Demonstrate significant understanding of accounting principles as applied to day-to-day fiscal processes.
    • Understand budgeting principles and reporting actual results compared to budget.
    • Prepare and manage expense reports for grant reporting.
    • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with budgets, grantor requirements, and professional standards.
    • Manage vendor relations, including handling correspondence for bills and tracking expenses.
    • Assist National Programs team with programmatic reporting.
    • Assist National Programs team members in preparation of purchase orders, budgets, and other worksheets/internal procedures.
    • Assist Finance team with managing accounts payable.
    • Assist Finance team with managing credit card expense coding.
    • Develop ad-hoc reports/reconciliations.
    • Collaborate with identifying additional grant opportunities as time permits.
