Rooted in restorative justice (RJ), our programs include: pre-charge youth diversion, in-custody family connection and peer-led violence prevention with support for survivors, reentry case management for transitional age youth, in-custody and reentry restorative visual and performing arts, as well as youth-led leadership development and organizing. The Human Resource Department is involved in planning, creating policies and implementing procedures aligned with the strategic mission and operational objectives of Community Works.

As a member of the HR team, this position reports to the Director of Human Resources in supporting an overall workforce of 55+ full time, part-time and seasonal employees in a complex organizational structure. The HR Generalist works closely with the Director of Human Resource in providing day-to-day administrative support through the complete employee lifecycle, ensuring service delivery excellence. This position will also collaborate with the CFO, Leadership Team, and Program Managers.

HR Responsibilities

  • Be the first point of contact for employee questions and employment verification requests. Escalate issues to the Director of HR, if appropriate.
  • Screen potential employees and assist management with new hires
  • Manage the employee onboarding process
  • Understanding of all company benefits and is a resource for new hires and current employees
  • Gather and review new hire documents and benefit enrollment forms for processing
  • Assist in the preparation of employee annual performance appraisals and employee discipline documents
  • Employee HR Resource – answer and facilitate employee requests
  • Complies with all relevant labor laws regarding reporting and records retention
  • Coordinates new hire training schedules
  • Leave administration with the ability to determine employee eligibility
  • Partner with our Payroll team and be the point of contact for submitting any updates (compensation changes, state benefits coordination etc.) ahead of payroll processing
  • Assist in audits and compliance reporting
  • Act in a confidential capacity handling internal inquiry

Other Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to leadership and functional departments. This position will handle confidential and sensitive business critical information.
  • Manage location cell phone account
  • Ad hoc administrative support for executive leadership team, e.g. scheduling board meetings, printing packets, ordering supplies, etc
  • Order business cards and various other company forms, collateral, or supplies
  • Sort, distribute, and forward incoming mail in a timely fashion for the organization
  • Assist Executive Director and Board Chair with administrative tasks for board meetings
  • Develop business process that utilize technologies and are considered best practices
  • Any other administrative tasks that may needed by the business

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of HR generalist experience and 3+ years of administrative office experience required
  • Ability to think critically, strategically and multi-task
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information
  • High level of integrity, initiative, and commitment to excellence
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills, proficiency with computers, including MS office suite and the ability to quickly learn new technologies and processes Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and a proponent for change
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, reliability, teamwork and flexibility
  • Strong organizational, time management, multi-tasking and customer service skills
  • Must be able to work independently and with a team
