The immigration staff within the Supporting Families Workgroup assist and represent survivors of domestic violence, torture, human trafficking, and other serious abuse in removal proceedings and before USCIS and represent individuals before USCIS to become U.S. Citizens.

LAFLA is currently accepting applications for the position of Attorney – Immigration.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Active membership in the California State Bar;

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience serving immigrant communities preferred;

• Administrative experience in immigration matters before USCIS;

• Experience representing clients in removal proceedings;

• Demonstrated knowledge of immigration law;

• Ability to deal with people tactfully and effectively;

• Ability to work collaboratively with a team of paralegals and advocates;

• Experience providing community presentations preferred;

• Provide mentorship to colleagues on issues of subject-matter expertise;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

• Willingness to work beyond a minimum 7.0 hour workday, including evening and weekend meetings and events, and workweeks in excess of 35 hours when caseload or other obligations so necessitate; and

• Bilingual preferred.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Provide direct legal services to clients;

• Develop appropriate outreach materials related to immigration law and disseminate information about rights and benefits available to immigrant communities;

• Identify significant legal needs and issues impacting immigrants and develop plans, including litigation and policy strategies, to address those needs;

• Conduct legal clinics as needed;

• Provide trainings regarding immigration law to community-based organizations and community groups;

• Supervise cases placed with pro bono attorneys;

• In conjunction with the Managing Attorney and Pro Bono Director, recruit, train, and supervise volunteer attorneys and law students; and

• Other duties as assigned by the Managing Attorney.
