The Intercept, launched in 2014, is an award-winning digital news organization delivering unflinching investigative journalism that unearths injustices and holds the powerful accountable. Our journalists are committed to fearless reporting and speaking truth to power: essential elements of vibrant, inclusive democracies.
The Position:
A full-time, salaried position, the Development Officer supports the development team by managing development communications, leading major donor research and prospecting efforts, and supporting the major giving pipeline through donor relationship development, stewardship, and solicitation.
The Development Officer is part of a small but mighty team and will have a range of responsibilities in a fast-paced work environment. Tasks will include detail-oriented administrative and research work as well as high-touch major gifts fundraising. While the ideal candidate has experience being a front-line fundraiser, we’re particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable multitasking, have sophisticated research and communication skills and excellent attention to detail, and possess a true passion for our mission.
In collaboration with other business and editorial staff, the Development Officer will contribute directly to reach our ambitious fundraising goals and ensure that a major digital news organization is sustainable for years to come. This position reports directly to the Chief Philanthropy Officer and will work closely with the senior leadership team. While primarily remote, the position may require some travel and evening/weekend responsibilities to be successful.
