    The U.S. Global leadership Coalition (USGLC) is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented professional for the position of Policy and Government Relations Assistant. This unique and impactful position has a dual reporting structure – with public policy-related functions (50%) reporting to the Senior Director of Policy and the government relations functions (50%) reporting to the Director of Government Relations – and is based in Washington, D.C.

    Policy responsibilities include:

    Policy Outreach

    • Engage with relevant policymakers in Executive Branch bureaus involved in global development legislation.
    • Engage with think tank and advocacy experts on global development legislation, such as MFAN, ONE, Bread for the World, and Center for Global Development.

     Research

    • Provide research assistance on special projects relating to U.S. foreign policy, global development, and economic prosperity.
    • Coordinate coverage for ongoing think tank events and Congressional hearings relating to diplomacy and global development.
    • Maintain and update USGLC State Fact Sheets.
    • Contribute to and author blog posts.

    Other

    • Share responsibility for preparation of materials for USGLC events including salon dinners, small meetings, and events.
    • Duties as assigned based on the needs of the department.

    Government Relations responsibilities include:

    Advocacy and Engagement with Congress

    • Work with Government Relations teammates to maintain relationships with bipartisan congressional offices.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of Capitol Hill lobby days and events.
    • Monitor congressional hearings, legislation, and briefings; particularly around relevant non-budget focused issues (e.g. development finance, food security, countering authoritarianism).
    • Prepare briefing materials both for internal and external audiences, including assisting in drafting of budget and legislative analysis documents.

    Research

    • Research and analyze legislation and policy initiatives, particularly for non-budget areas that impact development and diplomacy programs.
    • Research and analyze the background and interests of Members of Congress, as needed, for events and meetings.

    Other

    • Lead preparation of materials and memos for in-district congressional meetings and in-state events with government officials and local validators.
    • Serve as a liaison between GR and Policy Departments.
    • Other duties as assigned, based on the needs of the department.

    Position Requirements:

    Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in public policy, government relations, foreign policy, international relations or a similar subject. Strong analytical, writing, proofing/editing, and communication skills are required. Knowledge of Capitol Hill is a plus. Limited travel is expected.

    COMPENSATION

    A projected salary range of $40K-$45K will be offered, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The USGLC also provides a package of benefits, including health and disability insurance, retirement plan, paid annual and sick leave and federal holidays.
