Introduction

We are seeking an Executive Director (ED) who is responsible for promoting Little Star’s educational philosophy and ideals, while ensuring that the school’s mission, vision and goals are effectively implemented and achieved. The ED leads the school both internally and externally, and oversees the day-to-day operations, working collaboratively with the Board of Directors, staff, students, families, alumni and greater community.


History

Little Star opened its doors in 1982 as a non-profit school under the guidance of Rayma Hayes and an inspired group of Methow Valley parents seeking loving care and high quality early childhood education for their children. Rayma’s vision and inspiration from the Montessori philosophy formed the foundation of our school: a place where every child could thrive because their unique and innate qualities were respected and nurtured. 

Little Star’s comprehensive programs are cherished institutions for families in the Methow Valley. We currently serve over 120 children, infant through kindergarten, and employ 35 staff members at our expanded Winthrop and new Twisp campuses. We have a robust financial aid program and enjoy incredible support from our community.

Core Responsibilities & Functions

 Leadership 

  • Cultivates a strong partnership with the Board of Directors and staff in setting policies consistent with mission, vision, and values of Little Star.
  • Provides oversight and support to ensure quality implementation of early childhood programs, curriculum and Montessori philosophy 
  • Works directly with the Administrative Team to create a compelling culture which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people 
  • Represents the school at community and professional events 

Management 

  • Manages a dynamic staff and maintains a positive culture and supportive working environment. 
  • Executes efficient and fiscally responsible management of the school.
  • Ensures that the school meets all regulatory requirements and pursues the highest level of quality educational standards.
  • Drives enrollment and student retention in all programs, as well as staff recruiting and retention. 

Fundraising

  • Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with major donors with an emphasis on donor stewardship and meaningful communication.
  • Develops and monitors annual fundraising plan with the Board of Directors and key staff. 
  • Provides leadership to BOD and its fundraising committee and key staff in execution of fundraising programs and events.
  • Stewards relationships with all individual donors by cultivating personal connections, sharing updates about our work, and promptly acknowledging all gifts

Communications, Community and Partnerships 

  • Cultivates and maintains effective, constructive communication with the staff and Board of Directors to foster an atmosphere of teambuilding and efficiency.
  • Oversees effective marketing, communications, and outreach through web, print, and social media to maintain and increase the school’s visibility and case for support.
  • Works in partnership with other organizations in providing for the academic and social/emotional wellbeing of children and their families. 
  • Ensures the learning experiences for children and young people at the school are integrated with the wider community through collaborative partnerships. 
  • Builds a coalition of parents and partners to help raise awareness about the importance of public funding for early childhood education.

USD $60.000 - USD $75.000
/ año
Upper range negotiable based on qualifications and experience

Negotiable benefits package including items such as retirement match, small health stipend, 50% childcare discount, annual performance-based pay increase, flexible work schedule following the school calendar, vacation time, and sick days.
