The Outreach and Benefits Specialist reports to the Executive Director to connect low-income households with a comprehensive suite of financial resources, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The Outreach and Benefits Specialist will conduct benefits related outreach in the community, including SNAP and other benefits education, screenings and application assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite and/or virtual courteous, professional, and confidential assistance to clients at AWE’s Community Center and other assigned community-based locations, who need help accessing SNAP and other benefits.
  • Follow-up with clients, assist with troubleshooting, and document outcomes in database systems
  • Regularly attend outreach events in order to provide public education to the community about the SNAP Program, with a focus on under-served immigrants and refugees
  • Provide financial coaching
  • Participate in supervisory and staff meetings.

Requirements

  • GED or high school diploma required; college degree preferred
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office and database software experience
  • Experience working closely with community-based partners and social service agencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team, as needed
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet program goals
  • Spanish fluency required

Asylee Women Enterprise (AWE) is a 501(c)3 with a mission to provide housing, community and companionship to men, women and children seeking asylum and other forms of immigration legal relief. AWE began in 2011 and has quickly grown to serve more than 2,000 individuals through one or more of our services including: our housing program, our Trafficking Victim’s Assistance Program (TVAP) program and our Community Day Program. Our model uses a strengths-based approach coupled with a community building focus out of our 'one-stop-shop' in North East Baltimore.
