Position: Marketing and Communications Writer

Reports to: Managing Director, Communications and Brand

Status: Full Time; Exempt

Location: US Based Home Office

Start date: Immediate 

We are seeking a brand storyteller and adept copy editor, who can communicate as effectively in a 280 character tweet, as a 50 character headline, a 200-word email, or a 3 page op-ed. The Marketing Writer will create concise, engaging, and timely written content for web articles and other web content, email, marketing collateral, and other marketing initiatives that build the Facing History brand and increase audience awareness, engagement and action. This is an exciting opportunity for a versatile writer to support the mission of a great organization in a variety of ways including a meaningful contribution to developing and publishing Facing History’s thought leadership. 

Deliverables will include CEO communications, Program Impact Statements, student, teacher and donor profiles, talking points, and other External Communications. The person in this position will also be expected to make recommendations about best practices in SEO and writing for the web. You will draft donor newsletters and solicitations, prepare news stories for our website and write our Annual Report and printed collateral. You will engage our audience through email newsletters, video and event scripts and our other communications platforms.  

You possess a proven track record of writing for email and social platforms, and have the versatility to write for a spectrum of audiences from educators to donors. This position is a great opportunity for someone who excels in creative, narrative, non-profit and business communications.

Applicants will be asked to submit a portfolio of work with at least 2 types of writing samples.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as copy writer and/or editor for a wide range of marketing collateral, including, but not limited to event listings, product and services one-pagers, email, landing pages, organic and paid social media.
  • Create content for donor engagement and fundraising emails and other donor-facing content in collaboration with the Development team.
  • Collaborate with team members to build & maintain the marketing team editorial calendar to ensure Program, Development, Content, and Event-related communications are thoughtful, well-planned, and equitably promoted.
  • Copyedit, manage, and coordinate with the team to execute email sends for Regional offices.
  • Develop copy for marketing campaigns to promote specific resources and programs.
  • Build and manage content for triggered email campaigns throughout the customer lifecycle for both educators and donors. 

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in marketing and copywriting, Non-profit setting preferred
  • Brand-centered portfolio showcasing knowledge of SEO-friendly web copy, social copy, campaign work, and brand storytelling
  • A strong understanding of social platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
  • Ability to write for a variety of outputs with a dynamic, flexible voice
  • Team player who thrives on communication and collaboration
  • Can drive ideation and execution based on data and organizational priorities
  • Highly organized with a resilient positive attitude.
  • Research, excellent writing skills
