Bloomberg Associates is an international consulting service founded by former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg as a philanthropic venture. We provide pro-bono services to mayors to help city governments improve the quality of life of their citizens. Although we are a philanthropic enterprise, we function and work as a private-sector management consulting firm.

The Position:

The Digital Strategies team supports cities around the world to operate more effectively and better serve their residents by embracing digital approaches and modern technologies. Digital technology presents city governments with opportunities to transform how they operate, engage with communities, create transparencies, and improve and expand their services to residents. The team collaborates with cities to create programs and policies leveraging their digital resources, modernizing and coordinating their municipal services, developing digital leadership, as well as providing training, skills mapping and opportunities to connect with and support local innovation ecosystems.

We are looking for a Project Manager to provide high quality consulting services to city governments and support client cities’ advancement of their digital goals, help them build better services, foster creativity and break down barriers.

In this role you’ll handle many client relationships, engage critical stakeholders, organize and facilitate workshops and convenings and use your expertise to provide strategic guidance and advice, aid with the development of strategic plans, conduct research and analysis, and write white papers.

The role is based in New York City and, in the future, will require a significant amount of travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support city clients to advance goals and address challenges, by conducting detailed research, discovering insights, delivering recommendations, and supporting clients as they implement and drive change
  • Independently represent the team in meetings with internal executives, external partners and senior leaders in government, business, and academia
  • Effectively and independently lead /contribute to projects, at various stages, in line with client expectations
  • Managing ongoing relationships with current, former, and future international client cities and partners to effectively enable the sharing of best practices across cities, deepening of relevant expertise and staying up-to-date on industry standards
  • Produce and edit written materials for the Digital Strategies team including presentations, memos and blogs
  • Provide project support assistance to the Principal and senior team members (e.g. documentation of meeting outcomes, follow up with stakeholders and partners on actions and tracking of progress against project plans)
  • Maintain data and project updates for internal check-ins and provide coordination with other Bloomberg Associates disciplines and the Communications team
  • Work in partnership with other colleagues on new and/or ongoing program initiatives for our multiple client cities across the world

Required Skills and Qualifications:

We seek dedicated, curious individuals with outstanding research, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Other pre-requisite qualifications for this role include:

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience working with city governments or in public sector consulting
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government officials and administrations, in the areas of digital/technology areas
  • Outstanding knowledge of digital communications practices and platforms
  • Be a strategic thinker, who will actively contribute to shaping the development and vision of the Digital Strategies team
  • Comfort in navigating ambiguity
  • Experience conducting research projects and programs
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to independently coordinate and lead multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on quality and project follow-through
  • Experience working in dynamic, impact orientated environments and a consistent record in meeting deadlines
  • Track record of creating data driven reports, memos and presentations; with a sharp eye for detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills showcasing a capacity to synthesize information, develop compelling narratives
  • The ability to effectively listen to, communicate with, negotiate, challenge and influence through exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills; including an ability to grasp key issues and make recommendations for improvements
  • Adaptability and ability to learn and develop skills on the job.
  • Flexibility to travel frequently to client cities

  • Experience living in and/or working with international cities
  • Fluency in Spanish
