Literations improves the literacy skills of young children through grade three by engaging professionally trained older adult volunteers as literacy coaches in our partner schools and after-school programs. Our highly-effective programming annually serves thousands of children in the Greater Boston area. Literations is an affiliate of AARP Foundation Experience Corps, a national leader in engaging older adult tutors to improve K-3 student literacy.

Overview of Position

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Operations Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of all Development team and fundraising activities. They will work closely with the Executive Director and Institutional Relations Coordinator to create comprehensive strategies for all aspects of Literations’ annual development plan. This includes planning innovative programs, events, and appeals to ensure goals are met. Literations is entering a period of strategic growth to which this position will be integral.

Literations is seeking an organized individual with outstanding attention to detail, and a strong background and demonstrated success in development operations and event planning. Successful candidates will be comfortable with SalesForce or other types of CRMs. They should demonstrate experience with development operations (ie: gift acknowledgement, donation tracking, giving reports, etc.) and be ready for the next phase of their development career. This position is ideal for individuals seeking to diversify their development portfolio and gain experience in project management, donor relationship development, and individual giving strategy and implementation. As stated above, the successful individual will report directly to our Executive Director, acting as the point person for all Literations development topics and play an integral role on our development team.


Responsibilities


Events and Event Planning

  • Manage all organizational events related to development. Includes but is not limited to our large annual fundraiser and smaller functions like house parties, panel discussions and corporate volunteer opportunities.


Individual and Corporate Donor Relations

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Development Committee to create a comprehensive development plan for cultivation and solicitation to reach organizational goals
  • Oversee the research of existing and prospective donors in preparation for Executive Director donor visits, support solicitation and coordinate necessary follow-up
  • Manage our overall process to expand and diversify support from our individual donor database
  • Oversee the management of records and reports in Salesforce database
  • Manage gift acknowledgement and other correspondence with donors


Board and Development Committee Management

  • As needed, assist the Executive Director in all board relations including communications, board meeting coordination, minute taking, and the engagement of board in fundraising activities
  • Serve as staff liaison for the Development Committee, organizing meetings, communicating with members, setting agendas, and follow-up as needed


Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in nonprofit development or related field, focus in event planning a plus
  • Familiarity of donor databases and how they are used to support development
  • Highly motivated with a strong attention to detail 
  • Experience with project management and delegating tasks to staff and volunteers to reach shared goals
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Positive attitude, commitment to organizational mission and appreciation for older adults and intergenerational work
