Director of Electricity Policy

The Director of Electricity Policy promotes the acceleration of the U.S. renewable energy economy through electricity policy, power market reforms and other regulatory and educational outreach.

Reporting to the Vice President of Policy, this position works closely with the leadership team and ACORE members to drive ACORE’s workstreams across the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, RTO/ISOs, state utility commissions, federal agencies, and other entities as appropriate. The Director of Electricity Policy will closely monitor and respond to regulatory developments and assist in executing ACORE’s broader policy objectives. The ideal candidate will have subject matter expertise on U.S. energy policy, including electric transmission and renewable integration; wholesale power markets; four or more years of policy experience; and a demonstrated track record of producing high-quality written materials and successfully executing multi-faceted projects.

This position is based in Washington, D.C. though all staff are currently working remotely due to COVID-19.

Key job duties

·       Monitor and respond to regulatory developments impacting the U.S. renewable energy industry at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, RTO/ISOs, state utility commissions, federal agencies, and other entities as appropriate

·       Work with the COO, CEO and ACORE Executive Program membership to set strategic priorities for ACORE electricity and power market engagement

·       Develop and drive the delivery of high-quality written materials, including regulatory filings, policy analyses, fact sheets, white papers, blog posts and presentations

·       Stay abreast of current federal, regional and state policy debates, as well as developments in the renewable energy industry

·       Represent ACORE in meetings with regulators and in regulatory-specific meetings with other entities

·       Build and maintain high-level knowledge of regulatory issues impacting the renewable energy sector and share with ACORE members and staff as appropriate

·       Coordinate ACORE’s electricity and power market work streams with ACORE’s Partnership for Renewable Energy Finance (PREF) and Partnership for Renewable Energy Integration and Market Expansion (PRIME) members by communicating ACORE campaigns and synthesizing member input

·       Support the regulatory efforts of ACORE’s Macro Grid Initiative, a coalition effort to expand and upgrade the nation’s transmission network

·       Participate in the planning and execution of ACORE meetings, events and annual signature conferences, especially the annual Policy, Finance and Grid Forums

·       Assist programs, communications, corporate engagement and other internal teams in support of ACORE’s mission and organizational objectives

Required skills and knowledge

·       Subject matter expertise on U.S. energy and electricity policy, including a fulsome understanding of electric transmission and wholesale power markets

·       Excellent written, research, analytical and communication skills, with preference for prior experience producing regulatory filings, briefings, reports and other written materials

·       A minimum of four years of policy work experience, of which at least one year is regulatory experience

·       Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, companies and other interested parties

·       Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree (e.g., JD, MPP or MPA) preferred

·       A collaborative and collegial work style
