    The Acacia Center for Justice (“Acacia”) provides legal support and representation to immigrants facing deportation through the development, coordination, and management of national networks of legal services providers serving immigrants across the country.     Job Summary:

    The Senior Program Associate for the Post-Release Legal Services (PRLS) program will join a new and growing multi-disciplinary team with immigration advocacy, child welfare, finance, and research backgrounds. The Senior Program Associate for Learning & Development will play an integral role in ensuring that legal service providers in our PRLS network have the knowledge and resources they need to provide high-quality legal services to the youth they serve. The Senior Program Associate will be responsible for staying abreast of new policies from government partners, and changes in immigration law that may impact the practice of representing children in removal proceedings. The Senior Program Associate will synthesize and summarize such new information in a comprehensible way to provide timely and accurate guidance to our legal service providers. The Senior Program Associate will also maintain relationships with our technical assistance providers, help identify relevant topics for network-wide training and assist in developing and executing such training programs.     Note: The Post-Release Legal Services Program is contingent on Acacia Center for Justice being awarded a contract to provide post-release services.

    Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Create organizational tools to track and analyze immigration cases and USCIS/EOIR/ORR policies that impact the Post-Release Legal Services network.
    • Synthesize and summarize changes in immigration law and policies to provide external guidance to legal service providers in the network, in the form of webinars and written guidance.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new technical assistance providers by conducting regular check-in calls, reviewing reports, and ad hoc communication to ensure they provide relevant and quality resources for the Post-Release Legal Services network.
    • Identify other technical assistance needs of the network and collaborate with colleagues to create training resources that address these needs.
    • Respond to questions from providers regarding ethical issues, new developments in the law, and case-specific issues that arise.
    • Conduct legal research and write reports or facilitate network calls on additional topics as they arise.
    • Develop workshop curricula for on-site training programs.
    • Travel domestically 2-4 times per year to conduct on-site training programs.

    Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

    • A demonstrated knowledge of immigration law, child welfare issues, family law, criminal and juvenile systems.
    • Ability to work quickly and manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently.
    • Willingness to adapt to change.
    • Strong writing, research, data analysis, and facilitation skills.
    • Comfort with public speaking and giving presentations.
    • Ability to work collaboratively on a team, as well as to take the initiative and manage projects independently.
    • Willingness to travel 2-4 times per year to conduct and attend in-person training programs, and ability to successfully balance travel responsibilities with office-based responsibilities.
    • Interest in effectuating change in partnership with the government.
    • An uncompromising commitment to immigrants' rights and race equity.

     Preferred Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

    • Spanish proficiency strongly preferred, and knowledge of other languages a plus.
    • Knowledge of the ORR system for Unaccompanied Children.
    • Experience representing detained immigrants and/or children.
    • Experience providing legal orientations, Know Your Rights presentations, legal screenings, or other community education initiatives.
    • Experience working before tribunals and decision-making bodies, including state and federal courts, immigration courts, and USCIS.

    Education and Experience:

    • J.D., DOJ Accredited Representative, or other removal defense experience, including lived experience.
    • At least four years of immigration experience, either in legal, government, or policy work.

    Acacia has established an internal compensation philosophy that centers equity and pay transparency. The salary for this position is set at $96,000. The salary listed is just one component of Acacia’s total compensation package for employees. Supporting Acacia staff—both personally and professionally—is our priority.
