Artistic Noise is seeking applications for a freelance art therapist to co-facilitate our Alternatives to Incarceration workshop, created in partnership with Midtown Community Justice Center. Candidates should have an interest in community-based care, specifically at the intersection of social justice and youth development. The art therapist will be responsible for co-leading one in-person workshop per week (2.5 hours with set up and clean up) alongside our Spanish-language translator and an art therapy intern. Taking place at the Midtown Community Justice Center every Thursday from 11AM-12:30PM, clients participate in this therapeutic art making group in order to dismiss low-level bench warrants. This short-term engagement with clients includes structured art discussions, directive-based art making, and verbal processing prior to the conclusion of each session.
Applicant Requirements
Masters Degree in Art Therapy
NYS LCAT preferred strong LP-CAT candidates may also apply
Minimum of 1 year prior experience facilitating group session(s)
Expectations and Responsibilities:
Facilitate group each week
Maintain materials and material storage within the session space
Conceptualize future therapeutic art directives and contextually appropriate art history presentation
Work with and report directly to the Director of Art Therapy regarding program implementation and session trends
Skills and Interests:
Comfortability in a courthouse setting
Strong group leadership skills
An interest in advocacy, decarceration, and alternative programming
Basic knowledge of art and art history
Passion for non-profit and community-driven work
Hourly Rate
$65/hour for the 2.5 hour workshop, inclusive of set-up, session, and clean up. This position is freelance and does not include benefits or paid leave of any sort.
