    The high level:

    The development associate (DA) is part of a team of relationship builders working together to support Reading Partners NYC’s regional strategic efforts. The development associate’s main role is to support the achievement of regional fundraising goals in close partnership with the local development team by driving development operations, supporting regional events, and supporting the management of our individual giving portfolio. Reporting to the development director in the NYC region, the development associate supports a variety of development team initiatives, is heavily involved in prospecting, and event support, and ensures smooth departmental operations.

    The development associate is a highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and avid relationship builder who is hungry to gain a great deal of exposure to many areas of fundraising in a high-growth nonprofit.

    What you’ll do:

    Drive regional development operations and provide administrative support:

    • Oversee and leverage Salesforce donor database to record and track deadlines, meeting notes, and funder information.
    • Produce reports and data that are used by the development team and executive director to drive streamlined communication internally and with the board.
    • Oversee gift processing and donor recognition efforts to ensure accurate and timely tracking and acknowledgment.
    • Work closely with the accounting team on grants management and reporting.

    Support regional fundraising events and activities:

    • Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, including the creation and management of project plans, coordinating event logistics, revenue and ticket tracking, day-of event support and volunteer management, and event follow-up.
    • Draft event collateral language and materials (save the date, one pagers, outreach templates, follow-up materials).

    Support individual portfolio management:

    • Update, with support from the development director, the major donors pipeline dashboard within Salesforce.
    • Support associate board and advisory board efforts, including meeting material creation, note-taking, and engagement tracking.
    • Lead individual campaign efforts, including the annual appeal mailing and peer-to-peer campaigns.
    • Manage and grow our monthly donor program.
    • Partner with the community engagement and program teams to create and roll out a VIP tutor program.

    Drive regional internal and external development communications efforts:

    • Support donor meetings and visits, including scheduling and logistical details, preparation of materials and talking points, note-taking, and prospect research.
    • Support all shared development team responsibilities, including board and committee meetings, annual mailings, site visits, etc.

    How you’ll do it:

    Development Operations Management:

    • Demonstrate a strong detail orientation, a strong drive for accuracy, and the ability to manage projects independently, and as part of a team. Execute all work in a highly organized, analytical, and data-driven manner. Demonstrate the ability to prioritize, problem-solve.
    • Create clear project plans with diligent implementation making sure all assigned projects are thoroughly completed on time. Identify and communicate all contributors, deadlines, and expectations before and during a project. Understand the vision and distill it into actionable and manageable pieces.
    • Lead on a high volume of operational needs for the development department including, meeting brief creation, donor cultivation tracking, event planning, prospect research, and data aggregation.

    Relationship Development & Collaboration:

    • Establish highly collaborative relationships with all team members in the region. Ensure accurate, timely, and compelling interactions with donors. Work closely with the national accounting team on grants management and reporting.
    • Demonstrate a hunger to learn, grow, support, and add great value. Regularly seek to understand all aspects of our model to convey externally. Boast an entrepreneurial spirit and actively seek to deepen current donor relationships and forge new ones. Demonstrate excitement to steward and leverage relationships to support regional growth.

    Communication:

    • Effectively write high-quality donor communications that demonstrate deep knowledge of our program and promote our mission. Through exceptional writing, serve as an ambassador of Reading Partners.
    • Quickly establish credibility when promoting Reading Partners to external audiences. Demonstrate a high degree of comfort and poise with donors, corporations, and prospects.

    About you!

    You’ll be successful in this role if you:

    • You have 1+ years of increasing responsibility in development operations or a related role in a nonprofit or social impact setting.
    • Have an interest in or exposure to fundraising operations, project management, and fundraising event management.
    • Are achievement-oriented and have high attention to detail.
    • Are an exceptional, persuasive, and persistent communicator verbally and in writing.
    • Have a high degree of comfort with Salesforce or other fundraising databases.
    • Have entry-level experience navigating grant reports and fundraising cycles.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to race, equity, diversity, and inclusion in your leadership.
    • Display a deep belief in our mission and root your work in our core values.
    • Ability to prove eligibility to work legally in the U.S. and that you are at least 18 years of age.

    What We Offer

    Reading Partners’ compensation and benefits programs are designed to attract, motivate, engage, and retain top talent to propel our mission forward. We aim to set salaries based on objective, external, high-quality market data. Our salaries are adjusted for candidates in different geographic regions. We do our very best to ensure that we’re bringing our best offer - therefore we do not engage in salary negotiations.

    • This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly role. The pay range for this position is $26.27 - $30.91 per hour for our New York City Region.
    • We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, flex spending accounts, generous paid time off, commuter benefits, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and currently a 403(b) match option.
    • Professional development reimbursement fund up to $1,000 per year.
    • Unlimited or Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) benefits for regular employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week. In addition to paid holidays, we close our offices for one week in early July and between Christmas and New Year's Day.

    • This role is a hybrid role that reports to the RPNYC office at least twice per week
