Position: Director of Human Resources

Center for Family Life in Sunset Park (CFL) is a neighborhood-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that aims to promote positive outcomes for children and adults through a comprehensive range of youth, family, and social services programs. Since 1978, CFL has grown with the dynamic, immigrant community of Sunset Park, offering access to resources that families need to thrive and responding to emerging needs with innovative programs including family counseling, cultural, educational, and recreational programs at neighborhood public schools, adult and youth employment programs, and an emergency storefront for food, legal and immigration services, and advocacy. In partnership with our community, we provide opportunities for personal development, enrich neighborhood residents’ quality of life, and nurture relationships that sustain families and support youth in becoming confident, capable adults.
Through our extensive portfolio of integrated services, Center for Family Life employs 100 full time and 200 part time staff, and serves over 15,000 individuals in over 8,000 families each year. Our annual budget of $15 million is derived from grants and contracts with New York City and New York State agencies and from private foundations that support human services in New York City.
Job Summary
The Human Resources Director collaborates with Co-Executive Directors and senior leadership in carrying out Center for Family Life’s mission and strategic plan. The Director oversees all aspects of the employment lifecycle: recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, training, employee relations, performance management, safety, legal compliance, separation and succession planning. This position supervises the HR Assistant, and other HR related staff.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Qualifications
· Master’s degree in human resources or related field preferred, bachelor’s degree required.
· Two or more years’ prior experience in an HR Director role with supervisory responsibilities.
· HR generalist background with a record of progressive advancement. Deep understanding of current HR trends in compensation, benefits, and performance evaluation frameworks and fluency with primary HR functions (employee relations, HR administration, compliance, and New York City and New York State laws/regulations). Experience must include hands-on responsibility for the full scope of benefits activities.
· Demonstrated ability to be a strategic partner with leadership, ability to articulate a vision of HR’s role as supporting the organization’s mission, vision and values.
· Strong leadership and supervisory skills that support productivity and positivity.
· Engaging interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with a diverse workforce and wide array of stakeholders
· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion principles and ability to partner in supporting DEI work at CFL
· A demonstrated ability to work independently, lead multiple projects, meet concurrent deadlines, and organize time and priorities in a fast-paced ever-changing environment
· Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, and strong work ethic. Proven track record of excellent follow-through and execution with the highest levels of integrity, ethics, and accountability. Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion and sensitivity.
· Superior oral and written communication, analytical and research skills.
· Proficiency with MS Office applications and excellent computer skills, with a concentration in HR-related applications.
· Prior human resources experience in NYC non-profit social services a plus.
· Professional certification: SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR a plus.
· Bilingual in English-Spanish or English-Chinese, a plus.
· NY State Drivers’ License for occasional program site visits, a plus
