Position Summary: The Director of Institutional Giving reports
to the Chief Development Officer and serves in an important leadership role at
the Milwaukee Art Museum in securing
foundation, corporate, and government grants.
This position will build on a high caliber program that reflects the
Museum’s mission, goals, and strategic plan.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities: Overall
responsibility for a comprehensive institutional giving program encompassing
foundation, corporate, and government engagement. Grant resources support
curatorial, education and community programming, and other strategic
initiatives.

Drive proactive institutional engagement to
achieve ambitious goals that align with the Museum’s tradition of community and
scholarly impact.

Work collaboratively across the Museum to
develop program and budget buildouts to support grant submissions.
·
Lead application strategy and process (including
writing needs), delegating to the Development Officer for Institutional Giving
where appropriate.

Support direct report (currently one position)
and larger Development team through mentoring and team building.
·
Work to develop relationships with program
officers and other foundation contacts through external facing activities.
Participate in proactive outreach to expand funder network and strategically
develop new prospects.

Work in tandem with members of the Development
department to create multi-year and strategic plans to secure grants, corporate
sponsorship, major gifts, membership, and endowment support to meet annual
goals.

In partnership with the CDO and COFO, set annual
revenue goals for the institutional giving team.
·
Oversee post-award grant compliance and
reporting, and support additional stewardship efforts. Manage appropriate
relationships around grant outcomes and donor expectations.
Position Requirements
·
Creative,
relationship-focused, and strategic development leader motivated by a passion
for the Milwaukee Art Museum’s mission.
·
A minimum of 7
years of progressively responsible experience in an institutional giving
program.
·
A bachelor’s
degree (master’s degree a plus).
·
Supervisory
experience, including mentoring individuals and teams.
·
Outstanding
interpersonal competencies, and proven track record in managing foundation
relationships resulting in major grant awards.
·
Strong writer
with the ability to synthesize complex concepts into compelling proposals and
reports using both technical and storytelling language.
·
Exceptional
communication, project management, problem solving, and research skills.
·
Ability to
manage competing priorities and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
·
Program
evaluation and budget development experience.
·
Willingness to
work periodic weekends and evenings.
·
Proficiency
in: Raiser's Edge, Basecamp, and Microsoft Suite.
Physical Demands
·
Sit up to six hours per day, stand up to five
hours per day
·
Lift packages up to 25 lbs on occasion
·
Walk throughout Museum campus and off-site
