CT Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities located in Middletown, Connecticut, seeks a full-time (37.5 hours), Grants and Programs Assistant.

CT Humanities (CTH) administers the Connecticut Humanities and Connecticut Cultural Funds, maintains the websites connecticuthistory.org and teachitct.org, and supports Connecticut’s cultural organizations. During fiscal year 2022, CTH grantmaking distributed over $20 million in operating support and project grants to Connecticut’s museums, cultural, humanities, and arts organizations and expects to administer an additional $30+ million in grants in fiscal year 2023.

Description:

  • Reporting to the Director of Grants and Programs, the Grants and Programs Assistant provides a high level of support to CTH’s grantmaking program. Duties include:
  • Processing grant applications
  • Managing CTH grants database and records
  • Communicating with applicants regarding funding requests and assisting grantees with grants management and completion of open grants
  • Traveling to grantee organizations to counsel applicants on their grant project ideas and to evaluate CTH funded projects
  • Assisting grantees with publicity and promotion of CTH funded projects
  • Helping grantees connect their CTH funded projects to CTH’s digital learning websites
  • Answering general questions from grantees and helping to connect them to appropriate resources at CTH partner organizations
  • Working with the Connecticut League of History Organizations on joint initiatives
  • Other related duties as assigned

Salary Range: $45,000-$50,000/ year, plus full CTH benefits package (health, dental, vision, and life insurance, retirement plan, and vacation and paid time off)

Job Duration: This is a one-year position with the possibility of extensions, dependent on continued state funding support.

Essential skills, duties and responsibilities include:

  • Strong computer skills (Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and PowerPoint preferred)
  • Database management (Foundant Grant Lifecycle Manager preferred)
  • Experience working with diverse communities, peoples, and organizations
  • Task and goal oriented
  • A desire and ability to work independently, move quickly, but deliberately; share and receive critical feedback. 
  • This position requires strong communications between staff, board members, grantees, partners, and the public. Understanding these relationships is critical and excellent communication skills are required.
  • Effective writing and editing skills
  • In-state travel required

CTH’s workday is 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday with room for flexibility in employee schedules. The Grants and Programs Assistant will work both remotely and onsite at CTH’s Middletown office. The Grants and Programs Assistant will work with the Director of Grants and Programs to create their in-office schedule upon hiring.
