Schedule and Compensation: 40 hours per week; $16.10 per hour

General Description:

LCV believes our earth is worth fighting for because everyone has a right to clean air, water, and a safe, healthy community. To ensure those rights are protected, we help people use their power to shape policy, hold politicians and polluters accountable, and influence elections.

For more than 50 years, LCV has grown into a potent political force for protecting our planet and everyone who inhabits it. We have built a powerful national movement with 30 state affiliates, and grassroots and community organizing programs across the country.

The internship will focus on learning about how LCV’s Clean Energy for All campaign succeeds in its mission of showing federal policymakers that the groundwork for bold climate action centered around racial and economic justice has already begun in states and cities nationwide to ensure federal actions support further sub-federal policymaking.

LCV is seeking a State Clean Energy Policy Intern who will support the State Equity Policy Director in (1) developing and designing policy guidance for climate advocacy at the state and local level, grounded in social, racial and economic justice, and (2) building the capacity of the state leagues to advocate for the equitable implementation of state clean energy policy. Special projects could include evaluating and presenting potential pathways for states to strengthen utility-scale clean energy commitments and developing introductory-level training and materials on equitable building electrification or grid infrastructure. The State Clean Energy Policy Intern will join a cohort of LCV interns for the fall program.

Intern Will Gain Experience in:

●       Researching and analyzing legislation and regulations on climate and clean energy with the express purpose of developing policy materials for a multi-state clean energy campaign.

●       How a multi-state campaign integrates racial and economic justice principles into state, local and regional campaign design and centers the leadership of impacted communities in policy development and implementation.

●       Understanding how a large environmental organization leverages influence within the halls of government, at boards and commissions, and at the grassroots level within states and communities to advance bold climate solutions.

●       Working collaboratively with state and local-based coalitions and organizations, and in campaigns with broad, racially diverse coalitions that center equity within policy demands.

Qualifications:

●       Work Experience: 6 months administrative support work, including internship experience preferred. Interest in clean energy and climate solutions, such as renewable energy, vehicle and building electrification and climate resilience strategies is essential.

●       Skills: Highly organized; strong attention to detail; excellent written and oral communications skills; strong research skills; exhibits solid judgment; critical thinking skills; able to work independently and as a team; able to handle multiple tasks; self-starter; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.

●       Cultural Competence: Shares our commitment to increasing racial diversity in our movement and organization, integrating racial justice and equity into the work we do, and ensuring an inclusive organizational culture. Commitment to environmental protection and mission of LCV. Familiarity with the complexity of issues and obstacles facing communities’ of color engagement in the environmental movement.
