Healing Hands Incorporated is New York’s service provider and advocate for black survivors of commercial sexual trafficking, domestic, and related forms of gender violence. Healing Hands works to end gender violence through three key areas: direct service; outreach, education and training; and systems-change advocacy.
Qualifications:
This position is open to bachelor or master’s degree candidates seeking an internship / externship to assist survivors of sexual assault. Applicants should possess strong interpersonal, analytical and writing skills and have a commitment to social justice. Experience or interest in working directly with clients and on issues of gender violence is a strong asset, as is coursework in social work. Proficiency in a foreign language, is helpful, but not required.
We are looking for 20–25 hours per week commitment for at least six (6) months starting as soon as possible. The internship start and end dates are flexible, and we can accommodate vacation time. Internship hours will be scheduled between Monday- Friday, with flexibility around the exact weekdays. The hours would also be flexible, excluding mandatory meetings. Work would be done primarily in person with a few hours not to exceed 8 remotely.
Under the supervision, responsibilities may include:
Complete Healing Hands intakes and present to the team; determine client’s need for services.
Provide administrative support to the Program Coordinator, prepare and edit correspondences, communications presentations and other documents. Manage and maintain schedules, appointments, and travel arrangements.
Provide direct services to a caseload of approximately 5 clients, conduct psychosocial evaluations, obtain identification, public benefits, and other applicable income sources for clients, intervene in crisis situations…
Attend trainings and webinars on sexual assault, participate in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings.
Assist in coordinating and co-facilitating support groups with internal and outside facilitators.
Work alongside the Program Director to plan and coordinate events and trainings in the community.
Attending anti-trafficking coalition meetings and participating in legislative advocacy campaigns.
