Girls Who Code is an international non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology.

We are seeking an aspiring Human Resources professional to join our People & Culture team. In this position, the People & Culture intern will gain human resources experience by performing various administrative tasks to support the department's daily activities and various team initiatives. In addition, the People and Culture intern will work closely with the People Operations Manager, learning the ins and outs of managing the day-to-day people operations activities, which will include benefits, onboarding, and record retention. The P&C intern will support the activities of the team in order to positively affect the impact of the team's work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the maintenance of electronic personnel files and filing systems (actives, terminations, I9’s, etc.). Including, but not limited to creating new folders, scanning and filing paperwork, and ensuring files are stored accurately
  • Send new hires required compliance trainings and track status to ensure completion 
  • Posting open jobs on recruitment sites; conducting research as needed
  • Ad hoc support of talent acquisition projects
  • Prepare HR-related reports as needed
  • Help prepare Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents
  • Sort and distribute department mail
  • File documents into appropriate employee files and maintain active and terminated employee files according to regulatory requirements
  • Greet and direct staff, vendors, and visitors upon arrival
  • Respond or redirect staff inquiries to the appropriate P&C team member
  • Assisting in the planning of company events
  • Other duties as necessary

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Proficient in using G-Suite, Adobe PDF, comfortable using Slack and ability to pick up other tech tools and systems, like MS SharePoint and an applicant tracking system
  • Excellent communication skills, especially written and verbal
  • General administrative experience, especially at a non-profit, is a plus
  • Desire to learn and grow
  • Timeliness and dependability
  • Must be able to collaborate with other team members
  • Able to commit to working a minimum of 20 hours per week in-person in our midtown Manhattan office
  • Start in late June and work through late August
