    Internship Opportunities at Project 8

    Position: Intern (Research, Data Analysis, Policy Analysis)

    Number of Positions: 3

    Location: Remote (Preferably in Houston, but not required)

    About Project 8:

    Project 8 is a pioneering nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing housing inequities in Houston, Texas. Our mission is to empower low-income Black and Brown families living in hazardous conditions by advocating for fair housing policies and providing comprehensive support through research, data analysis, and policy advocacy. Founded and run by a proud woman of color, Project 8 is at the forefront of transforming subsidized housing into safe, dignified living spaces for all.

    We are seeking three passionate and dedicated interns to join our team and contribute to our first campaign. If you are committed to social justice and eager to make a meaningful impact, we invite you to apply for one of the following internship positions:

    Research Intern

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct thorough research on housing policies, tenant rights, and community needs.
    • Gather and analyze data from various sources, including government reports, academic studies, and community surveys.
    • Produce detailed reports and summaries to support policy advocacy and community organizing efforts.

    Skills Needed:

    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
    • Proficiency in using research tools and databases.
    • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.

    Data Analysis Intern

    Responsibilities:

    • Collect, organize, and analyze data related to housing conditions, demographics, and policy impacts.
    • Create visualizations and reports to communicate data findings effectively.
    • Support the development of data-driven strategies to address housing inequities.

    Skills Needed:

    • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, R, Python).
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Ability to interpret and present data in a clear, concise manner.
    • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.

    Policy Analysis Intern

    Responsibilities:

    • Analyze local, state, and federal housing policies and their impact on low-income communities.
    • Draft policy briefs, recommendations, and advocacy materials.
    • Monitor legislative developments and provide updates to the team.

    Skills Needed:

    • Strong understanding of public policy and legislative processes.
    • Excellent research and writing skills.
    • Ability to think critically and propose innovative policy solutions.
    • Experience with policy analysis and advocacy is preferred.

    Qualifications for All Positions:

    • Passion for social justice and a deep commitment to helping Black and Brown low-income families.
    • A sense of urgency and discomfort with the current state of government regarding housing justice.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Must be able to start by Feb 5 and commit to the duration of the campaign.
