The Border Hub

The Border Hub is a youth, and women -led organization operating an Innovation Hub and Digital Resource Center at the Kenya-Uganda border town of Busia to enable young people to gain the Skills, Confidence and Connections they need to realize their potential in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, consequently contributing to strong and inclusive communities.

Our Programs include:

• Digital Literacy & Essential Life Skills : Bridging the Digital Divide among rural teenagers and young people, igniting their aspirations into STEM careers.
• Next Step Program: Enbaling High School Leavers make informed Career & Life Choices.
• Software Development & Programming: Bulding the next generation of software developers
• Community Youth Champions Fellowship: Transforming grassroots changemakers into global change leaders, enbaling them them build globally competitive business brands, develop strong elevator pitches, and access a network of business mentors and investors to help scale up their business operations and deepen their community impact.

The organisation is anchored on the need to provide sustainable skills, innovation and entrepreneurship solutions to poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment, which has exposed the youth, men, and women of the border town to exploitation, gender-based violence, sexual manipulation, child marriage, violent extremism, and crime, resulting in an economically deteriorated community whose people lack sustainable income. This has limited the community’s ability to access healthcare, skilled education, information, and opportunities required to generate sustainable income. The absence of a community library and Learning Centre where the youth can be productively engaged has left them to engage in risky behaviors that result in increased crime, teen pregnancies, school dropouts and continued unemployment.

The Innovation Hub and Digital Resource Centre provides a safe youth friendly social and educational space to engage productively, learn, innovate, access internet, and build their business skills for socio-economic prosperity.
