RIPE is seeking a small number of summer volunteers to help us achieve our mission of advancing a farmer-led bipartisan dialogue for a national, comprehensive climate policy that enables agricultural producers to earn a reasonable return for the environmental services they provide to society. Our work is focused on the dual outcomes of scaling up sustainable agricultural practices in the U.S. and bringing together a coalition to fight for the passage of climate policy. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is passionate about those issues and is looking to build their skills and experience in research, policy, outreach, and coalition building, and to gain general exposure to nonprofit strategy and team dynamics.

Experience Gained & Responsibilities

Volunteers are integrated into the RIPE team as core members and treated as professionals. Each volunteer is engaged in projects that reflect their own interests and learning priorities, balanced with program priority needs. Volunteers will have research project responsibilities combined with some administrative or communications support. Volunteers will select their priority interests from a list of projects, similar to those listed below.

  • Provide basic research to support RIPE’s research, policy, communications, and government affairs teams;
  • Provide analysis, writing and editing support on policy memos and external communications;
  • Support editing/development of content/messaging (written docs, grassroots);
  • Conduct research and analyze important policy issues for further dissemination and analysis;
  • Supporting thought-leadership opportunities and presentation development;
  • Coordinating and preparing for visits with Federal, State and City government and elected officials;
  • Conducting research on important stakeholders and constituents to facilitate coalition building; and
  • Supporting with special projects.

Skills & Interests

The desired skills and interests of this position are:

  • Independence, proactive research skills, and the ability to take initiative to approach research in creative ways
