Development Manager

PSYDEH is seeking a Development Manager. This is a 3-6 month fellowship followed by an opportunity for full-time employment. This position’s primary focus is to implement and grow effective fundraising strategies for a small nonprofit based in rural Mexico. A hands-on position, the Development Manager will collaborate with all members of the PSYDEH team as we support each other’s work in a dynamic and growing organization.

The primary responsibilities of the Development Manager is to identify partner opportunities for the organization; develop plans to compete for funding opportunities; execute those plans, including oversight of pre-solicitation/pre-proposal activities, as well as proposal preparation and submission; and otherwise contributing to PSYDEH’s external strategies and internal fundraising efforts as they relate to donors. The DM will plan, execute, lead, and monitor progress of fundraising strategies towards the organization’s goals.

In order for PSYDEH to continue to scale to meet our bold program visions it is essential that our funding streams and partnerships continue to grow. Our development goals include an increase in long-term, unrestricted general operating funds, maintenance and growth in private foundation grants, growth in individual donors through email and social media, and expansion of corporate partnership opportunities and planned giving programs.

This position requires strong written communication skills as well as someone with experience solving complex problems in a collaborative setting. About PSYDEH:

PSYDEH empowers Indigenous women as community leaders in order to address pervasive social, economic, and gender-based inequality in rural Hidalgo, Mexico. For over fifteen years, PSYDEH has invested in Indigenous women as local changemakers to propel a new paradigm for social, economic, and gender equality in an acutely marginalized region through sustainable development.

Responsibilities: 

• Grant writing and reporting
• Assisting with/leading capital campaigns and coordinating fundraising committees
• Foundation and partnership prospect research and maintaining grants calendar
• Donor stewardship, cultivation and retention
• Individual donor initiatives (e.g. monthly giving, appeals, membership renewals, symbolic adoptions, online donation pages)
• Writing engaging and compelling content to solicit gifts through email, social media, other online fundraising efforts, and direct mail
• Assist with fundraising and volunteer events 
• Help identify and implement improved organizational systems to track information about past, current, and prospective donors, foundations, partners
• Work collaboratively with our team at weekly team meetings and monthly organization wide meetings 
• Provide logistical support for and/or lead major donor fundraising efforts
• Proofread proposals, newsletters, reports and other materials as needed
• Explore creative ways to grow supporter base

Requirements: 

• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Advanced Spanish is a plus but not required
• Experienced in grant writing, technology, external relations, project planning, fundraising, proposal writing, corporate partnerships, traditional development work
• Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in fundraising and familiarity with nonprofit fundraising best practices
• Proven track record with grant-making, foundations and donor solicitations
• Highly motivated, intellectual curiosity, mission-driven, self-directed and a sense of humor with the ability to manage multiple projects and work according to specific deadlines
• Ability to collaborate with a team with strong communication 
• Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills that support and enable sound decision making
• Skilled at building and growing relationships with foundations, donors, businesses and non-financial supporters
• Strong interpersonal communication and marketing skills; excellent oral communication and ability to participate in public speaking events
